Seems unfair that swinging this wildly between 'Actually this is quite good' and 'My very existence brings shame upon all translators' doesn't count as cardio.

Somebody needs to do a PhD on how much ambiguity Georgian literature can tolerate but it's not going to be me because I'm too busy lying on the floor crying into a saucepan and praying for a meteorite strike.

A good morning's work. Up at five, 40 mins trying to find a show to have on in the background, porridge, coffee, 35 mins trying to work out whether author means trousers or undercrackers, coffee, bloody ages asking self "postmodernist distortion or author just wrong?" Words translated: 7, maybe 8

I have an entire music genre that i reserve for Getting Sh*t Done and that would be Cajun & Zydeco (yes, that IS two genres, I know I know) because nothing screams laissez les bons temps rouler like scraping burnt bit off the oven and sorting out tax returns.

Woke with a start at dark o'clock to the realisation that my inability to understand any sentence with a number in it has led to me once again embarrassing myself with a publisher during timeline negotiations. Go me.

It seems pretty risky to tell people they won't see the change they want if they vote Green, given that they already voted Labour and didn't see the change they wanted.

Listening to an audiobook in which 'red herring' has been translated literally despite that having no idiomatic meaning in the target language, which is actually the ultimate red herring as the poor listener will be so busy wondering where fish come into it that they'll never see the murderer coming

A morning that was uplifting and depressing in almost equal measure (uplifting won by a nose) weeding veg beds with a delightful, motivated, bright 12-year-old who was telling me about all the things that just *stopped* when he got to secondary, like forest school, non-sport clubs, school council...

Look, I'm old so I don't understand these things. How do those language exchange apps work, do you literally just go in and see who's online and... chat?!?! While you're both there? Randomly? #whatfreshhell

Once again I find myself translating intimate body parts and I tell you what, the level of nuance and subtlety of tone/register between the various words for bits is both a marvel and an absolute pain in the patootie / derrière / ass / arse / trunk / squishmallows.

Thinking of monetising my journey to achieving a single decent push-up. T-shirts, motivational montages, a podcast, maybe even a webtoon. What a fool I am for only thinking of this now.

Once saw a man by the river doing a sort of Mortal Kombat stance, squaring up to a massive hissing swan & he kept shouting “I won’t fucking back down pal” at it, as it advanced on him, wings outstretched like a terrible, vengeful angel & sometimes it seems like that is basically the entire world now

I need the Michael Sandel of the literary theory world. Who is that? I need a literary theory/criticism podcast that's engaging, follow-alongable, informative and would go with washing up/carrot-chopping. Help.

Been up since 6.30 carving a Peppa Pig pumpkin. It's already looking a bit wilted. Chances of it lasting till 31st: -16 billion. Excellent use of a morning.

Got wedged in the cellar hatch at the back of the bookshop while trying to get myself and my bike through it and woke up whilst stuck fast with my legs and rear wheel dangling over the street below, and a heart rate of 750. #dreams
