Heartbroken that, per his social media accounts, Drew Struzan has left us. His poster and album art was quite simply shorthand for imagination for countless young people.
E.T. Adventure poster, 1990. I still have one of these hanging in my childhood bedroom. Star Wars Special edition triptych, 1997. I remember seeing all of these in the paper as each film was re-released and just felt a burst of energy those mornings. Hook poster, 1991 Back to the Future poster, 1985

It’s ok to strongly believe in literary excellence, and to read and love “canonized” works, it’s also very important that you read as much smut and trash as you can. Keeps you young

Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

There have always been long movies, but I feel like the pointed complaining about movie length these days prevails because
1) a lot of franchise movies do suck
2) now tv episodes are way too long, because streaming has no limits. Everybody is absorbing a bigger meal with nearly everything they watch
eegah.bsky.social
A movie can be as long as it needs to be. If a television show is over an hour an episode it better be fuckin’ Columbo

The trailblazing transgender rights activist Miss Major has passed away at the age of 78.

Miss Major was a lifelong organizer and participant in the ballroom scene. She took part in the 1969 Stonewall Riots and was injured by the police — but she kept fighting.

I mean just to give him some perspective. He could just coast on John Carpenter’s Vampires, Salvador, Scary Movie 2, Northfork, it didn’t have to be this way.

I replied to James Woods several times about his segment from Stephen King’s Cat’s Eye, “Quitter’s Inc.”
Usually when he said his trademark appalling stuff. Just to remind him of his nice work in one segment of a cable tv horror anthology staple.
It’s good that I’m not on that site anymore, I guess

If you have any objections to joining a mass march/protest against this government that fall along those lines I’m going to assume you’re not an adult

These guys are terrified of the numbers that are going to turn out on Saturday, and that's all the more reason to put down your "wine mom protest" objections and join them.

Some Trump-humping weirdo posting about Trump:
“President Trump will go down in history as the most fiercely persecuted political figure, relentlessly pursued by vicious political attacks, slanderous media coverage, and shameless witch hunt lawsuits! Yet, through sheer grit and unyielding resolve, President Trump rose above it all and showed the world that he is the MOST consequential and transformative US President and World Leader EVER!!”

What do you think is Wes Craven’s best film that isn’t part of the A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET or SCREAM franchises?

I feel like everyone will have a different answer and that’s really interesting to me.

Listen, I have been cycling through the Siskel and Ebert run, sequentially, starting in the late 70s when they were on Chicago PBS, and what am I supposed to do when Allen’s movies are on the show and getting praised? Am I supposed to be mad at them?
eegah.bsky.social
Like, it is meaningless to other people, full stop. Do what you want, either way. Besides, there was a time Before the bad thing happened, and if you want to know about the culture at that time, you’ll probably have to watch Manhattan and Annie Hall! Or don’t! It is all voluntary
eegah.bsky.social
If you want to honor Diane Keaton by watching Annie Hall, knock yourself out. You don’t have to make sure everyone knows you have Good Person points before you do it. Actually, you don’t even have to post about it? Pressing play on something is not a moral conundrum. You’re not *that* important

NEW: @CDCgov hit hard by massive firings that several staff describe to me as a “bloodbath.”
Among those RIFd:
—leadership of the center for immunization and respiratory diseases;
—leadership of global health center
—leadership of the measles outbreak response; 1/4

Not for nothing, but as far as “acclaimed” goes, Ebert dropped 4 bags of popcorn on the first one

At a certain point you gotta stop acting like a movie had no footprint just because you hadn’t thought about it in a while

Pretty sure Tron did extremely well on VHS and cable.

Pretty confused by how TRON became a big-budget movie franchise. Was it a bit hit when it came out? No. Did it become a big hit on video/TV? Also no. Do people have fond nostalgic memories of it? Eh kinda but not really. Was it secretly great and critically acclaimed? No again

No, sorry, you don’t get to talk like this unless you’re out there somewhere in the action. The costumed dancers are doing more than you until they’re not
