So we're basically number 29? Pretty damn good.
AP poll dropped. Here’s the good stuff.
So uhhh does this mean we're retiring Jamal's number or...?

With today’s win against Arizona, the Coogs are officially BOWL ELIGIBLE! 🔥
YOUR SIX AND ONE HOUSTON COUGARS
That was an unbelievably dogshit PI call in the end zone. Absolute gift from the zebras to Arizona to tie the game.

Did a quick look at some UH Soccer overall stats from the program's 2+ years in the Big 12 & its insane how much more competitive the Coogs are.

Dana went 2-7 in Big 12 play and openly admitted he wasn't trying any more in recruiting. Fritz is 5-7 in Big 12 play despite inheriting maybe the P5's worst roster from Dana and is killing it in recruiting. But yea other than that they're basically the same coach. Do better, @davidubben.bsky.social
The Athletic wrote this claiming UH is getting "Similar Results" to Dana Holgorsen and it's a laughably bad take from a writer who clearly doesn't pay attention to the Coogs. We would probably be the worst P4 team right now if we didn't fire Holgo

The Supreme Court's Republican appointees sound ready to transform the 14th and 15th Amendments into a weapon against the very racial minorities they were meant to protect—handing Republicans 15-19 additional House seats in the process. A disaster for democracy.

Always very fun to look at the early schedule and see things like "Marshall", as if that's a real school.
Love this slate. Each year we make up new colleges for low majors to play in November and it’s amazing.

This is from a really, really lovely piece in the Seattle Times. Absolutely made me cry. www.seattletimes.com/sports/marin...
Top-40 Houston Cougars lfg
The SP+ top 40 if there were no priors involved. All hail our Red Raider and Hoosier overlords (and LSU's top-ranked defense)!

As Democrats contemplate a 2026 or 2028 run and wonder what message will most motivate voters, they need to understand that the minimum opening bid is vengeance.

As the universe's only known Houston-Iowa State-UC-Irvine fan, the end of this list feels uniquely designed to elicit mixed feelings in me. Otz at 24? Sounds right. Russell Turner in the top 25? Hell yea! Both right behind Ron "Houston is my personal rival" Hunter? No, that's... that can't be right.
Adding a pretty useful coaching component to the preseason ratings algorithm this season. Here are the top 25 active coaches based on what they add to what is already captured by the model predictors.
year. (Or the year before.) Maybe a function of there being fewer covid super seniors around this year. Means UH could very conceivably have a slightly worse team than LY and still be the best team in the country.
It's interesting that Houston's projected raw rating (how many pts they'd be expected to outscore an average team by over 100 possessions) drops from 36.59 last year to 31.14 this year, but their ranking goes from #2 to #1. Kp is projecting a top tier of the sport that is not as elite as it was last
start of an home-and-home, for Houston's last non-conference game. But he said it was real difficult to get quality teams to come to UH, and ultimately the last spot got filled by another body bag game.
plus whoever Houston's 3rd opponent in Vegas is. But the number of 100+ teams on the non-con jumps from 5 to 7 (with 2 more non-con games being played). This wasn't entirely Houston's choice - CKS publicly stated that he was trying to find a quality opponent to come to the Fertitta Center, as the
Houston's non-conference schedule projects a sturdier middle class but with a bit more cupcake than LY. 24-25 saw the Coogs play #4 Auburn and #6 Bama but then a huge drop to #51 San Diego St, #75 Butler, nobody else top 90. This year it's #9 Tennessee, #29 Arkansas, #31 Auburn, #68 Syracuse,
9: K-State (both)
10: UCF (kp) / TCU (me)
11: TCU (kp) / OSU (me)
12: WVU (both)
13: OSU (kp) / Utah (me)
14: Utah (kp) / UCF (me)
15: Arizona St (both)

Kp likes UCF more than I do, but we both see the bottom half of the Big 12 being pretty tightly packed.
7 and Cincinnati. I made my projection before Jizzle James got dismissed from the Bearcats which would've caused me to drop them below Arizona for sure, but I still really don't see Baylor (huge roster rebuild) being in the same tier as the rest of the top teams like kp does.
7: Kansas (kp) / Arizona (me)
8: Cincy (kp) / Baylor (me)
We have the same top 8 teams, but in different orders after UH at the top. I said there wasn't much of a gap b/t these teams and kp's projections suggest the same. Biggest diff is I see a gap b/t the top 7 and Baylor, kp sees one b/t the top
Just for giggles, here's how kenpom sees the Big 12 vs how I projected the conference after doing a roster deep-dive 4 months ago
