Clarification of scope: This account is intended to be duiker-centric, but I plan to occasionally share others' skeets about klipspringers, dik-diks, and other adorable miniature bovids.

I'm pretty sure that's a klipspringer rather than a dik-dik.

(Klipspringers are also great.)

This little duiker was rescued by one of our SWT/KWS Anti-Poaching Teams, after he was found all alone by herders. He was on his last legs, so they asked the team to help. Collected by one of our pilots, Roan popped him on his lap for the flight to Kaluku, where he's receiving the care he needs.
Sorry, when I wrote the alt text I didn't notice the parent duiker is licking the baby duiker's head, presumably to help clean it?

If you're looking for maximum portability, you may also wish to consider the royal antelope, which is even smaller.

(This is not meant to encourage you to pursue this. There are many reasons why trying to keep klipspringers as yard pets or landscape critters could end badly for you, the klipspringers, or the ecosystem wherever you live, although I do very much understand the temptation.)
Per wikipedia, adult klipspringers range from 8kg to 18kg, so less convenient to move than babies, but still probably within the realm of carry-ability, as long as they don't object to being carried.

Pic of the day - a red duiker grazing peacefully.
Usually these small antelope are very skittish. This fella seemed quite unconcerned about us

In case you're having a bad day, here's a baby klipspringer antelope

This is an excellent duiker.
Red-flanked Duiker
(Cephalophus rufilatus)

TINY - only 15 in (38 cm)tall, they can survive w/o water on plants, seeds, flowers but are nearly the only antelope to eat insects + carrion. They use preorbital glands (black lines) on their cheeks to mark territory. #duiker #photography #portrait #cute
Resisting the urge to reply to an algorithmically-promoted FB post to point out that they've mislabeled a photo of a lesser mouse-deer (Tragulus kanchil) as a Vietnam mouse-deer (Tragulus versicolor).

(I know this is outside this account's mandate but it feels like it's in the right spirit.)
