it was just the connection falling off from the motherboard! incredibly stupid design where it's like. you have the port. then it has a cable. then it connects from the top?? to a connection?? on the motherboard?? and it can just fly off anytime the laptop jostles

see windows issue was my first guess because windows... turned out the connection became free to the motherboard
sidenote, the motherboard connection is the dumbest connection i've ever seen. working now!! got jumpscared by fucking bitlocker while powering it on to test :I

commissions are gonna be closed for at least the next fortnight so i can try to get ahead on comics and then have a holiday!
