Interested in why assessment, maybe the biggest objection to Land Value Tax – the least bad tax – might not be such a problem?

Check out my new working paper: Land values can be estimated more accurately than property values in parameter recovery simulations.

Lol, Zillow tried to rate the climate risks facing individual properties. The real estate industry *hated* it, precisely because it worked -- it made selling risky properties more difficult. So they rebelled & Zillow caved.

Don't look up!

Honestly to improve people’s lives in American cities you will have to piss off: merchant associations, some labor unions, neighborhood associations and some liberal nonprofits.

If you’re unwilling to piss all of these people off at different junctures you’re not fit for public office imo

I feel like the two dimensional political compass for local elected democrats are:

1. Mod or Prog

2. Interested in solving any local problems whatsoever vs deferring to local gatekeeper assholes.
It’s incredibly funny people flipped out about a guy running the most standard ass municipal government policy playbook imaginable.
Soon small businesses won’t have to wait for Small Business Saturday to get attention from their Mayor.

Some changes that they can look forward to:

Minimum parking requirements create financially insolvent land use patterns.

The two apartment buildings on the right generate six times more in property taxes than the big box store on the left, while occupying almost half the space!

While NY is considering mandating two-person trains, the DC Metro not only already operates with one person, but recently reactivated its automatic train operation system.

Now, continuing to follow best practices, Metro has announced plans to move towards driverless trains.

Liberalism is good, actually.
Larger media outlets have wavered since the first Trump term, but we've remained steadfast in our categorical rejection of MAGA in all its aspects and our affirmation of liberal democracy and the principles that it rests on.

How can you not love a website that includes Land Value Tax in its survey of reader policy preferences?
Today we are launching what we hope will be a transformative fundraising push.

We are determined to increase our reach so we can compete with voices who are less than fully committed to, or who outright oppose, liberal values.

Help us do it: www.gofundme.com/f/the-libera...

Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.
One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.

Congestion pricing will be a popular issue in 10 years.
Almost half the Waymos on California streets are driving around empty. They're either waiting for the next customer or en route for a pickup.

If robotaxis scale, anything close to that level of deadheading would create crushing gridlock.
