So has anyone figured out where Smith is going with her “complexity cap” yet?
Hint - it’s the opposite of inclusion, and is likely to be accompanied by a resurgence in use of the “r” word amongst the intellectuals who vote for / work for / are MLAs for the UCP.

This is exactly what the ATA should ask for.

"There aren't enough schools now, so we'll give you time to build enough schools to phase in the necessary classroom cap."

But unless that's accompanied by a much-improved salary increase, it's no deal.

The ATA's description of their proposal to employers is: "a phased-in approach to achieving manageable student–teacher ratios, a fair counter to the government’s 3 percent annual salary increase offer, and new language designed to finally begin addressing the increasing complexity (of clsrms...)"

Nate Horner says the government "will not budge" on teachers' salaries, and he's sticking with the salary offer that was overwhelmingly rejected by teachers in their last vote. His plan is to let teachers go without pay, then legislate them back to work at the end of the month.

Worldwide survey confirms that teachers in Alberta have the most stressful classroom working conditions IN THE WORLD and work longer hours (i.e. more unpaid hours) than in all but 3 other nations.
Smith's solution is to lock teachers out and not pay them.
