Behold, the Imperial Standard of Philadelphia-Baltimore
The imperial standard of Austria-Hungary (a black two-headed eagle holding a sword in one talon and a gilded orb in the other, each eagle head with a crown, surrounded by other coats of arms, on a gold field with 9 other crowns, bordered by alternating gold-black-red-white interlacing triangles), but the eagle heads are the logos for the Philadelphia Eagles (a shrieking white and grey eagle facing left, outlined in green) and Baltimore Ravens (a stern purple raven head facing right with a dark gold B superimposed)

Now that the American media can go back to never covering the constant killing of Palestinians and Israel’s expansionist project, these people can go back to writing their screeds about imagining a better world and accepting the lesser evil, and all the other fucking nonsense they love opining about

They’ve all been waiting for all of this to be over, not because they advocated and protested for the safety and dignity of Palestinian people, but because now they can go back to not thinking of it, and not being bothered to stand for all the things they’ve always claimed they believed. Congrats.

The same people — and politicians — who are now going to go back to lecturing others about free speech, liberal ideals, right and wrong, and all the other nonsense, watched as people were brutalized, disappeared, and speech was punished and repressed when anyone protested Israel.

Lot of people treated a genocide of a people, sponsored by their own country, as an annoying pet issue that needed to be shelved after the killing as complete or pushed aside for other political problems. And pretended that it was just too complicated to engage with.

Congrats to all the people who have postured as intelligent and morally righteous for years but decided that they couldn’t take a stand against genocide or decided to justify and cheer on the massacre of a people for whatever reason. Now they can go back to playing the intellectual in peace.

just want to note that in terms of *print* subs they have completely cut local news and sports coverage so aren't offering local readers a reason to subscribe

Tomorrow about a third of Perseverance rover staff will be laid off, despite the mission being the penultimate step in a decades long effort to bring samples back from mars.

Reckless, needless budget cuts intended to hinder the pursuit of knowledge.

Johnson: "Together with my friend Speaker Ohana of the Israeli Knesset we're going to rally speakers and presidents of parliaments around the world so we will jointly nominate President Donald J Trump for next year's Nobel Prize. No one has ever deserved that prize more & that is an objective fact."

super easy to find """innovative solutions""" when you just ignore federal law and what Article I says

hey so I know this is T&P but DHS doesn't have near the same authorities as DoD has with reprogramming, and also the DoD version of this is still illegal as shit even with those authorities

Whatever dog killer barbie is cooking up is gonna just be an outright money grab

It is tacky for really famous people to be in TV commercials for products. Their gambling debts/boat repairs are not my problem, those roles should belong to actors like the Time To Make The Donuts guy and the actress who said "who are you calling a cootie queen you lint licker" in that Orbit ad.

The executive is usurping a core Article I function, this should be treated with the same amount of alarm as if he declared he's disbanding Congress, because that's functionally what he's doing/done

since there's reports on social media of money hitting accounts worth reiterating that this is illegal and unconstitutional as shit, it's not a close question, and while I don't expect anyone on H/SASC or H/SAC will do anything, anyone performing this 'reprogramming' should face criminal penalties
mikeblack114.bsky.social
It's also worth reiterating that absent this reprogramming authority being written into law it would be not just illegal but flatly unconstitutional for DoD to expend money in any fashion not explicitly specified (by both type/use and quantity) by Congress in an appropriations bill

Since we're getting a crash course in DoD reprogramming authority, CRS has a good report on it linked below. Some important points:

Congress gives DoD reprogramming authority because when you're dealing with a trillion dollars, some stuff is probably going to need to be changed over 12 months

Again, extremely funny that Snell started his career being actively prevented from pitching deep into games, inspiring countless wage-suppressed imitators that he’s since left in the dust by being a traditional starter

Blake Snell with the 13th outing in postseason history of 8+ innings and 1 or 0 hits allowed

First since Roy Halladay’s 2010 no-hitter

First by a Dodgers pitcher

10th to also not allow a run

Right, I'm aware -- and that's why I'm saying if you wanted to truly follow the letter of the law (and not a contradictorily implied one), you’d omit stuff like, say, the Eric Bruntlett play
djmosfett.bsky.social
I’d argue no, as page 151 very clearly states what a “ground ball” is, and pp. 149-150’s definition of a “force play” shows absolutely no synonym. In fact, if I wanted to be cheeky as an official scorer, I’d omit all double plays from my final report that were not "grounded into”
djmosfett.bsky.social
The key is this: both MLB and the prior community standard *have a method* to describe multiple-out plays that don’t use a non-physical (and historically variable) indicator. Not using it is goofy as hell!
djmosfett.bsky.social
Fascinating that I was blocked for this — the data shows up and is parsed in the Retrosheet-approved cwevent in this structure!
djmosfett.bsky.social
MLB’s method loses a ridiculous amount of precision and obscures actual official scoring decisions, to the significant detriment of analytical processes *and* they’ve routinely needed to correct underlying play descriptions to more closely reflect what Retrosheet already provided.
djmosfett.bsky.social
As someone who has literally spent an inordinate amount of time building an actual application for fielding credit analysis, translating between MLB and Retrosheet, I can very confidently tell you: you are wrong
