Hey, everybody new! My name is Dylan, and I am a host at @killeverymonster.bsky.social, a producer for @deadghost.bsky.social, and a physicist from Canada.

If you wanna hear me elsewhere, I ran the Havoc Brigade series on @oneshotnetwork.bsky.social and was a player in arc 11 on Unprepared Casters.
You could even have the Vistani in Barovia as a relatively benevolent people, but the servants of Strahd are now just a wandering army. Give the whole module a built-in Team Rocket.
@criticallit.bsky.social I'm very late to this discussion, but replacing the vistani with, say, Strahd's favoured battalion basically accomplishes the same thing.
I mean, probably another 5-10 years.

4e Essentials was 2010, and 5e started in 2014. Granted, 2024 seems like it's getting better uptake than Essentials ever did, but I think there's a limited runtime to it.
Honestly, I can't be mad at them from a writing perspective. Presenting things in the way your audience wants to see them is arguably a good thing.

It's just the literacy of that audience that can really kill me.
The lesson WotC learned in 4e was that their customer base needed to be lied to about what game they were playing.
DnD 4e was the only edition that actually knew what it was and that’s why it’s the best one
Do you know how many tattoo artists will do free coverups on hate symbols?

If you regret a tattoo that you got without context, it's a google search and an awkward conversation away from being gone. Keeping it is a statement.

I mean, you should not be citing primary sources *you have not seen* without saying "Cited in." 🗃️

It is hella annoying when people cite sources I found & translated from an archival source - while using *my translation & not mentioning me*. So I don't want my students to do that to others!
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?
At the end of the day, people know it's bad, but they think they should be allowed to avoid doing hard things.

It's the same thing you see from the image generation losers. It's too hard to learn to draw, so I should be allowed to cheat.

Get good at things you're not comfortable with. Christ.
I agree with much here & want to add a puzzling (to me) pattern: I asked my interdisciplinary class whether AI use should be allowed. The math/CS folk said only in socsci and humanities courses, and the SS/H folk said only in math/CS courses. This OP says yes in math/CS and no in humanities 🤔

"employ in-class essays, oral exams+ rigorous discussions — that are far more difficult to use AI tools to complete. a close reading of the text should constitute the bulk in any introductory humanities class."

they invented a technology that makes you worse at your job while convincing you you’re better at it. also your boss has to believe you’re better at it or else the entire economy explodes. they made the sophon from three body problem in real life
"But when the team looked at the employees’ actual work output, they found that the developers had completed tasks 20% slower when using AI than when working without it. Researchers were stunned. “No one expected that outcome. We didn’t even really consider a slowdown as a possibility.”

The only hard part of being friends with @superdillin.bsky.social is when I listen to shows they're on and have to keep reminding myself no one is talking to me.

"May rely on" the definition of what an LLM is.

Computers may rely on running code. Fire may rely on burning material. Falling may rely on moving as a result of gravitational forces.
We. Told. You. So. But also, that "May Rely" in the significance section ( 👇🏾 ) is *way* too… let's go with "generous;" lexical associations and statistical priors are what these systems are literally made of, and all that they do. Literally. doi.org/10.1073/pnas...
Absolutely.

Let me know what you think if you get around to the show.

We do an interview about a D&D monster, then run a short AP around the monster in the back half of the episode.

Oh I see. I have to find a way to live alongside people trying to legislate me out of existence. Fucking insightful Kiera.
Hippos weigh a bit over 3000 pounds. If a hippo is moving at a standard jogging pace for a person (~4 mph), that's an equivalent momentum to a person running into you at highway speeds (~60 mph).

Except the person would probably stop after the collision. The hippo wouldn't notice it hit you.
And AS LONG AS THERE'S 8" THICK STEEL BEAMS BETWEEN ME AND THEM, they're really cute.

It was genuinely like something out of Jurassic Park. Every time they *brushed* against these massive steel grates, they rang out like bells, because there's just *so much force* behind any of their movements.
The reason horseshoe theory exists is centrists who don't believe in anything are being yelled at on both sides by people who hold beliefs.

That is the only commonality, but when you can't conceive of taking an honest to god stance, everyone drawing lines looks the same.
You can submit them for the next Kill Every Monster mailbag, and we'll see if Aram knows the answers. I have my guess.
