What a nice day. Now to think about death in the dark while I practice being dead until sunrise.
Like all normal people I pair my podcasts to specific activities. Current rotation:

Commute: Office Hours w/ Tim Heidecker
Chores: The History of Rome
Grocery shopping: The Outfit w/ Dan O'Sullivan & Alana Hope Levinson

liberal: it's awful when palestinian children are slaughtered [minutes go by] I've been fired

conservative: it's great to be here at the annual meeting of the Adolf Hitler Fan Club, I've prepared some jokes
[two years elapse] with the benefit of age and wisdom, I now repudiate my callow remarks
It's crazy to see Angela Lansbury and Jack Warden basically look the same as they'd look 20 years later and then Maggie Smith, who's looked ancient since the 90s, look like a schoolboy.
I like Hades 2 and I appreciate how much it stakes out new ground, but the gameplay feels a lot slower and less satisfying and both the story and protagonist are a lot more boring.
Beyond anything else it's just really stupid to believe that exclusivity makes a place less popular rather than more.
I completely agree with all of this. By all means - don't engage, don't take the bait: great.

But when I see the gleeful campaigns about chasing them out, I can't help but think it's counterproductive to the broader goal of liberating our information space from the dominance of billionaire techbros
They're welcome to be here, none of us are required to listen. If that frustrates them so much that they leave, that's their choice.

If they can't compete in the marketplace of ideas, that's not my problem at all. We don't need to artificially boost alt views just for viewpoint diversity.
I agree but the "political spectrum" runs from anarcho-communists to centrist libs. Anything beyond that is the political equivalent of x-rays and gamma rays that give you cancer.
This site would actually be better if it had more voices from across the political spectrum, and efforts to push out right wing accounts are only entrenching Twitter/X's dominant position in the political discourse.
I'm chromosomally obliged to point out Roman emperors pulled this move all the time. A stone-cold classic.
"Have you tried just telling everyone that you won? I did that for four years and it became true"
Trump's boast about being able to shoot someone in broad daylight and not lose fans aged better than anything he's ever said.
Man with oakleys and a baseball cap in a pickup truck driving past the No King's protest screaming I LOVE THE KING! We all just kind of stood there laughing. Where's your self-respect, American?
Asa fan of both Urkel-O's and Big Mix, this is an exciting development.

“He means well” - my wife, after I tell people I’m going to the water mine
But what if every slide was packed with text up to every border of the screen? Then we're covered.
This actually annoys me less than guys like Bezos who hoard money and can't even think of what to do with it. But building statues of Washington instead of yourself is still the same weakness of spirit. Our oligarchs are all furtive wimps because they know nobody respects them.
Conservative-leaning tech investors are racing to build a new American colossus, and they want something much, much bigger than the Statue of Liberty. Meet the new monuments men of the tech right and their plans for statue-maxing:

America’s Tech Right Is Obsessed With Building Giant Statues
With proposals for a 450-foot statue of Prometheus on Alcatraz and a 650-foot George Washington, MAGA adherents are racing to build America’s largest statue.

Why do these canaries keep filling my mine with gas?
Think he's saying the barrier to having that opinion, which is a very obtuse way to use that phrase.

It might be a bit late to be announcing this but I’m running for mayor of New York! My one and only policy is to restore the city to its rightful place in cinema and video games by massively increasing the crime rate
You may know about AI but until you've learned how to use it effectively, you're still a loser by this self-serving circular logic!
Yesterday I learned that butternut squash is a berry that was invented in 1940.
When someone tells me to rest assured I never push back on that. Because secretly, I love to rest assured.
We must all do our part to ensure office real estate profits!
2. Rolling Stone is owned by a large media conglomerate, which is ending remote work across its brands.

My home is Portland, Oregon, ~1,000 miles from the nearest office, so this marks the end of the line for me at RS.
I love bears and I've seen every kind there is. I hate slugs and every year they invent a larger, more disgusting one.
Trump just says any self-serving thing that pops into his brain 2 seconds ago! There's no big mystery behind it!
