Few know it’s actually a command.

“Get right to work.”
"Right to work" is a euphemism for "giving employers the right to abuse workers."

“For no matter how unhinged the position you’ve taken, or paid someone marginally credentialed to sketch out on your behalf—“Can Woman Think?: We Investigate,” “Is the Negro a Man: A Reconsideration”—that opinion will […] possess all needed evidentiary gravity for the Times.”

I might've gone a little overboard, but here's 3,500 words on social media, how to make it better, what's so awesome about Bluesky's protocol, and why I'm particularly excited about @leaflet.pub as showing the future of publishing. (Plus some feature suggestions to make Leaflet damn near perfect.)

@leaflet.pub is one of the coolest things I’ve seen on bsky. I’ve always been intrigued by Substack but never used it because I didn’t care for the “walled garden”.

I’m perusing leaflets and HOOKED
We wrote a quick letter, on Substack, to Substack creators — a call for anyone similarly tired of publishing trending toward walled garden social platforms:

Join us on a more open network & publishing ecosystem!
An open letter to Substack creators
Lab Notes 007: a note to those who find Substack useful, but use the platform reluctantly; an invitation to join us in publishing on a more open network.

Took our first family trip to my favorite place - the mountains of NC to see the fall leaves 🍁 Stayed in a really cute cabin by a river and we hit the leaf change timing perfectly!

(And traveling with a newborn is the hardest thing I’ve ever done 😅)

Been a while! I had a baby and have been BUSY. Haven’t had a ton of opportunities to get out but here’s some #photography over the last few months.

Outside of “work” work I’ve changed my process a bit so I don’t have to edit so much. I’m using Sony’s picture profiles to get some nice SOOC jpegs.

I moved all the news accounts I followed into a list and unfollowed them yesterday. My intention was just to get a little mental space.

A side effect I didn’t consider was that I can see so many more posts of the actual people I follow now. I didn’t realize how much the news spammed my feed.

“It’s a great question…”

Is it a great question? Seems like it was a bit of a softball and you’re reading from your notes.

Goddammit! I’m taking a break, Israel. Didn’t you get the memo??

And to that end, I spent the whole day painting the nursery and just jammed out to music.

It was fucking great.
We’re expecting our first kid soon and lately I’ve been feeling like I need to pull away from news and the everything going on to focus on my kid/life/family/mental health.

I want off the rat wheel for a while but that feels kind of selfish, ya know?

Remember when casseroles and fruit in jello were the pinnacle of white people home cuisine?

Exhibit A for why we should want immigrants to come to the US.
