ICE arrested a police officer in Hanover Park.

The Village of Hanover Park say Radule Bogojiv is legally eligible to work in the US and passed multiple background checks.

If they can grab him, they can grab anyone.

People need to wake up and realize no one is safe under fascism.

Ugh. I am sorry, that does not sound fun. Hope it stops soon.

Oh no, what will the six fundamentalist Catholics on the US Supreme Court do without their orders?
BREAKING: Pope Leo XIV is set to effectively disband Opus Dei in the coming weeks.

This would be the most sweeping internal reform of his pontificate — and a dramatic continuation of Pope Francis’s legacy.
NEW: Pope Leo Set To Break Up Opus Dei
If Pope Leo does indeed approves a plan that effectively dissolves Opus Dei’s structure, it would be the most significant internal action of his short pontificate to date.

This post needs to get ratioed.
Canada’s bail and sentencing laws are about to get a lot tougher.

We’re amending the Criminal Code to help keep violent criminals and repeat offenders off our streets, and we’re introducing stronger sentences for auto-theft, organised crime, and home invasion.
The fact that someone is willing to become a police officer tends to say certain things about how they see the world but police are a surprisingly diverse bunch. And the "dyke cop" stereotype is not a complete fiction and adds to that diversity.
Sounds like we are going to be getting more RCMP whether we like it or not. I worked as a trainer with police of all kinds for 12 years and simply by virtue of their life experience, women officers bring wider insight and missing social awareness that are beneficial to these male-dominated services.

I live in Toronto with a housemate who committed murder at 18 after living on the street from 12; he's now 60. Some people are intrinsically evil but most (convict, autocrat or greedy CEO) are a product of their upbringing. You can see on our streets that these are brutal times for too many people.
I wonder how much time Mr. Carney has spent walking around downtown in a big Canadian city like Toronto. I doubt he knows anyone who has gone to jail for violent crimes. If he had more experience of both he would know that our fraying social safety net is what needs fixing, not our criminal code.
Oh wow!!!

The cardinals chose well. Leo may outdo his predecessor when it comes to being a "progressive Pope." (As much as there can be such a thing. The institution of the Catholic Church will always create problems no matter who leads it.)

This is huge.

One hopes that rising prices enable more people to figure it out eventually, but maybe not...
MAGA increasingly makes me think of foile à deux. Collective delusion, certainly, but also a parasocial sort of one on one shared lie with Trump specifically.

I have no idea if that made any sense.

WE DID IT. RENT IS PAID! The relief is overwhelming. Thank you, every single person who threw a shield around my home this month. I can finally take a deep breath and focus on healing. This is what safety feels like.

Wow! Mamdani has a hell of a road ahead of him and I worry a bit for him. "Walk good" is usually a Jamaican farewell, it comes to mind as a blessing as he sets out on what will hopefully be an outstanding and transformative political career.

What happens when people with this much power see racial equality as an aberration to be corrected and white supremacy as the norm to be protected.
now the Court is spinning a giant wheel of racist excuses to kill off the Voting Rights Act

idk which one it'll land on, but they all have the same intended result: forcing people of color out of the political process, leaving a government by and for white people

The Conservative Justices Have So Many Ideas For How to Kill the Voting Rights Act
The Republican justices already know where they’re going. They just have to figure out which route they’re going to take to get there.

I forgot I had switched to this feed last night. Woke up and was looking at my feed and I'm like "why is there all this porn?"
Growing up in my family, many male adults drank hard liquor and yes, every day -- rum or whiskey. Bordered on and in some cases clearly was alcoholism.

I am from the Caribbean.

It may be cultural but some people just get hooked on alcohol. What I witnessed growing up led me to limit my use.

“The reality is that there is no fiscal crisis. No precipice.”
This is a really useful table from the folks at IFSD — especially if we're about to talk a lot about public debt and the cost of carrying that debt.

"There are Conservative voters who like Trump, but speaking to those who have concerns about DEI could even go the other way, he argues, and appeal to more middle-of-the-road Liberals who may not love Poilievre but who thought the progressive push under Justin Trudeau went too far."
Good night! Wishing you sweet dreams and good, restorative sleep.
