A GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENT FOR PUBLIC CONSUMPTION:
If you have not listened to No Doubt’s seminal 1995 album Tragic Kingdom in the last 20–30 years, you should know it’s waiting for you and it 💯 holds up.

(Did you forget that “You Can Do It” might be the best funk track since the ’70s? I bet you did!)

Not how I was expecting my afternoon to go, but hey, life’s a surprise, isn’t it?

Every bit of this only reinforces Joyce Carol Oates’ absolute roast of Elon Musk as fundamentally lacking in the ability to enjoy anything normally human. “I built a tool that can insult people in a social setting better than anything ever invented” is a real personal tell.
Everything about this might be the saddest thing I’ve ever seen

I’ll be honest: I wasn’t expecting much out of Kiss of the Spider Woman by Manuel Puig, but damn was I wrong. One of the finest examples I’ve ever read of minimalism of style producing a maximum of effect. Sheer brilliance. Read this book.

I guess the analytics didn’t tell the Cowboys that taking a 3-point lead with 3:38 to go would probably be a really good thing in a game like this.

I am proud to report that as of this evening, November 23, 2025—four days before Thanksgiving and a full month before Christmas—the lights have been successfully placed on the house.

the “thanksgiving food is bad” discourse raises its ugly head every year, but the truth remains that thanksgiving food can be amazing as long as you know how to cook. the problem is we’re throwing a few million sunday drivers directly into a grand prix
I think this is unfair to turkey. turkey is good but hard to cook well because it is so damn big. turkey *parts* are great but lack the esthetic appeal of a centerpiece bird.
it is tired to the point of cliche to say if turkey was good, people would make it more than once a year. but it is understated that at least one American explodes every Thanksgiving in a brave attempt to make the main dish more palatable

I sure as shit did not have “MTG sounding like the voice of reason in her resignation statement” on my 2025 bingo card, but holy fuck, here we are.

If you're trying to convince your friends to spend time on Bluesky rather than X, maybe show them this. X is not "the public town square" or about "free speech." It's "just what Elon Musk wants you to see." If you see stuff he doesn't like he'll step in to make sure you don't see it for long.
If you scroll on X, you are only being shown what Elon wants you to see. If you create content on X, no one will see it unless Elon wants them to.

The noose is a hate symbol.

The Confederate flag is a hate symbol.

If you think any of these statements are up for even the slightest degree of debate, let me know so I can block you as quickly as possible.

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

“Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)” by Cobra Starship. It’s generic pop-punk with truly awful lyrics, but that chorus absolutely SOARS.

[Bonus points for the movie not being very good either.]
In honor of me listening to "Blurry" by Puddle of Mudd several times, what's a song you love that isn't very good by a band/group/artist that isn't very good either

IOW, the only reason it would make sense to do that is if you didn't give a damn about overall crime rates, but you really hated young people. Replace "young people" with "immigrants" in this thought experiment and all three things are happening now. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/16/u...

Ruby Bridges is younger than both of my parents.
65 years ago on Nov. 14, little Ruby Bridges was escorted into an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell, renowned for blissful depictions of Americana, did this remarkable painting for Look magazine. Printed as a double page, over-size spread, it's his masterpiece.

Started reading @itsafronomics.bsky.social’s The Double Tax last night…and didn’t go to bed until I finished it at 3:00am. Super informative—and, frankly, enraging—I loved that it was not only backed with facts but also came with a clear set of action plans for the future. READ THIS.
