My feature on how musicians deal with the American medical system is here, with artists detailing their struggles to get decent care for cancer, gender-affirming care, chronic illnesses, substance abuse, and catastrophic injuries. This one is important to me, so please take a few mins to read it!
Seven musicians open up about navigating the complications and cruelty of American health care: ‘You realize the whole system is broken, religion is broken, government is fucking broken — you’re on your own.’

as a child, I believed the Macy’s parade Santa was the real one, and his appearance marked the start of Christmas season. I stand by it.

made it through with only one minor “steer off the highway to avoid a collision” and a briefly tailgating Tesla with an AW JEEZ plate. Not bad!
Of course, this will likely end tomorrow due to the apparent inability of Tesla drivers to navigate the cross island and the LIE like functional humans.

maybe it’s the holidays or the likelihood of getting through them without a second civil war, but I’ve noticed a lot of strangers I meet are in better moods and more courteous than they were a few months ago. Hope it’s a real thing!

Ah, I got it wrong — Cliff was a lefty, learned to play on a righty guitar and never reversed the strings. Can’t believe I used to have a job where things like this happened.

When I asked Jimmy this question, I wasn't expecting this answer about the song. One of those special moments that, thankfully, I was very aware of as it was happening.

RIP Jimmy Cliff. One of the best interviews ever (and probably the best picture of me at work). He did a song for me and our photographer, showed me how he played guitar with the strings reversed because he learned on a lefty. Just the coolest.

Not going to read too much into it, obviously Trump is the worst man alive, and is going to revert to saying the most odious shit imaginable in like an hour, but it's funny that this is coming a couple hours after 90 democrat losers voted to say "socialism is bad" for no reason.

Amazing reporting.

Young women in sports do need protecting -- from predatory coaches and other authority figures, particularly cis men (but women too), who groom, abuse, humiliate, and harm vulnerable athletes. The threat to women's sports is not and has never been trans women.
I’ve spent a lot of the last three years investigating the rise of anti-trans politics. Often, it came back to the controversy over trans women athletes.

So I teamed up with @pablo.show to look into the leading figure on the issue: Riley Gaines.

The swimmer tied a trans woman for fifth. The MAGA industrial complex took care of the rest.

TDOR is a day I've had complicated feelings on for many years, and this year it feels especially hollow. To have people only celebrate our names on the day we remember the dead. There has been little to silence of any of our triumphs and joys, and many feel all too eager to lay flags in memorial.
