My feature on how musicians deal with the American medical system is here, with artists detailing their struggles to get decent care for cancer, gender-affirming care, chronic illnesses, substance abuse, and catastrophic injuries. This one is important to me, so please take a few mins to read it!
Seven musicians open up about navigating the complications and cruelty of American health care: ‘You realize the whole system is broken, religion is broken, government is fucking broken — you’re on your own.’

I bet all Zohran had to say was “I’ll make sure there’s a room named after you at the Queens casino. Gold as fuck.”

Not going to read too much into it, obviously Trump is the worst man alive, and is going to revert to saying the most odious shit imaginable in like an hour, but it's funny that this is coming a couple hours after 90 democrat losers voted to say "socialism is bad" for no reason.

Amazing reporting.

Young women in sports do need protecting -- from predatory coaches and other authority figures, particularly cis men (but women too), who groom, abuse, humiliate, and harm vulnerable athletes. The threat to women's sports is not and has never been trans women.
I’ve spent a lot of the last three years investigating the rise of anti-trans politics. Often, it came back to the controversy over trans women athletes.

So I teamed up with @pablo.show to look into the leading figure on the issue: Riley Gaines.

How right-wing superstar Riley Gaines built an anti-trans empire
The swimmer tied a trans woman for fifth. The MAGA industrial complex took care of the rest.

TDOR is a day I've had complicated feelings on for many years, and this year it feels especially hollow. To have people only celebrate our names on the day we remember the dead. There has been little to silence of any of our triumphs and joys, and many feel all too eager to lay flags in memorial.

Of all the people Universal could have hired to write an essay for their new audiophile edition of VELVET UNDERGROUND AND NICO, they chose Anthony Fantano? Fucking insane.

Hamilton’s revamped arena, TD Coliseum, officially opens this Friday with Paul McCartney, but they’re doing a preview show tonight w/ Earth Wind & Fire, and the opening act is a cover band made up of construction workers, so the first people to play the joint are dudes who built it. Awesome. #hamont

Everything reminded me of him. When I'd microwave handfuls of forks. Hyperrealistic Halloween decorations. A fork in the garbage disposal. Raw milk. A pile of forks in the washing machine. Pointing at various objects and going "autism?" to whoever would listen. Different old guy, by the way.

CMJ and all the indie venues, when the city felt like a playground for seeing live music. The Hifi jukebox and other bars of that ilk, with good tunes and dirt cheap beer so you only needed to a few 20s in your pocket.
I'm not going to read the NYT story but I do want to hear what other people would put in their "Lost New York" takes, mine would include Dr Zizmor ads and the free transfer between the Broadway G/Lorimer JMZ stops
