Remember the US embassy construction in Soviet Moscow in the ‘80s? The structure was “riddled with listening devices”. What is being done do make sure that this demolition of the East Wing and the construction of the Epstein Ballroom does not allow tapping into comms and planting listening devices?

If you played an instrument back in high school and stopped: we are in a golden age of decent cheap instruments.
The guitars are better, the amps are better. The pedals are cheaper, the wind instruments are actually instruments and not just shaped like them, etc.

They need to look at it like post Soviet Russia, a mad dash by oligarchs to loot the public of their property in the government to benefit wealthy connected insiders.
I think journalists, policymakers and good govt types are struggling to understand DOGE because their mental model is that it is a government reform commission, operating like previous ones. Maybe. But it might be better to start thinking about it as a hostile takeover of the govt by oligarchs.

With all the talk about Judge Merchan’s plan to impose a sentence without jail time or fine & with an unconditional discharge on January 10, I’d urge him instead to condition Trump’s discharge on obeying the presidential oath he will take on January 20. That’s a promise we know Trump won’t keep.
