Exciting news: we made an offer on an apartment in Boulogne-Billancourt (the town just across the Seine from the 16th arrondissement in Paris) and it was accepted! It's a gorgeous place and the location is PERFECT for us. Right on a bus line to Cha's school and TONS of commerce just steps away.

It's frustrating to me that the only options really left for buying DRM-free albums are Bandcamp (which a lot of artists aren't on) or Apple/Amazon (to whom I try to avoid giving money). If I want to own an album rather than just streaming it, have to buy and rip CDs like it's 2003.

PERFECT TIDES: STATION TO STATION is an early contender for The Game Josh Won't Shut Up About 2026. A keenly-observed look at young adult life/love in the early 2000s, the writing is exceptional, balancing wry humor with raw emotional honesty. My highest possible recommendation. Support indie devs!!

There are two kinds of days in game dev:

The first is where you're a creative force of nature. An ancient all-knowing being of incredible skill and talent weaving gold out of your imagination.

The other is when you're a cave person named Grup, just banging two rocks together.

On Monday I'll be officially announcing an artist search for a book cover illustration (not cover design, just the illo). Budget is €1,500 ($1,770). No AI. No spec work required!

If any #artist, #illustrator, or #designer out there has suggestions on where else I could publicize this, let me know!

My favorite part of final/near-final drafts on books is how little tweaks can have such a big impact. Give a secondary character an extra scene or two, and they hit in a whole different way. Trim a little fat off a scene, and the whole chapter flows more smoothly. Etc.

OK, this is a big one. My review of @meredithgran.com's Perfect Tides: Station to Station.

This is one of the most important and beautiful games I've ever played.

@weirdguita.rs - Guitar made out of powdered mushroom fibers by an artist in Providence, RI. Now on display at Cité de la Musique in Paris, France. Visited a week or two ago!

Number of times per day I accidentally hit the emoji menu fn button on my keyboard while trying to hit delete: roughly three hundred thousand.

Can we have a Mamdani in the 2026 presidential race, please? Someone who genuinely cares about people and wants to make positive change for the country in meaningful ways?

I don't want to vote for Harris. Or Newsom. Or Buttigieg. Or whatever other neoliberal centrist gets painted as inevitable.

"Some Iranians keep showing defiance anyway"

Yes. That's how you win. No one in history has ever overthrown an oppressive regime without remaining defiant in the face of that regime's cruel and horrific punishments for defiance.

(I know SCJA knows this. Not sure the NYT does!)
All eyes on Iran. The “heavy price” the NYT so casually euphemizes is oftentimes death. Mass death.

My favourite thing about worker-owned media is that there's rarely any of the obfuscating headlines and both-sidesing that legacy media feels compelled to engage in.

Dear IRS, thank you for including a QR code to scan to get to your website in your latest mail, but do you think you could maybe also include the URL so that people like me who don't want to do everything using a cell phone, because that sucks, don't have to go manually hunting for it?

I almost never watch videos on Bsky. This one was worth it. Perfect speech, perfect delivery.
Highlighting the speaker who stood in front of the Surprise mayor and told him to consider what the Mayor of Ohrdruf must’ve thought before he died by suicide: “He might have thought ‘how is this my fault I had no jurisdiction over this’ maybe he said ‘this site was not subject to local zoning.’”

How has "computers can have multiple monitors" been a common thing for at LEAST twenty-five years, and yet MacOs is still so incredibly bad at dealing with it? Dialogs opening randomly on other monitors, windows opening half off-screen, nothing remembering its position, etc.

always bears repeating that this is NOT a financial decision. jeff bezos is worth over 250 billion dollars. he can afford to lose many millions and never even notice it. this is, at its core, a political and personal decision by bezos to destroy the post
WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington Post says one-third of its staff across all departments, not just the newsroom, is being laid off.

When I was in 5th grade I sent an anonymous letter to a girl I liked saying I liked her. I also included a little clay heart. I like to imagine the clay heart got destroyed in the mail so when she opened the letter, all this dust and shit just poured out of it, like it had come from a tomb.

Seeing a fair amount of celebration over this but it's still subscription software under control of a company who tried to discontinue it once.

Now is the time to find alternatives.
Adobe Animate's situation has now updated to the program to be in “maintenance mode”, meaning Adobe will not be adding new features to the program and it will no longer be discontinued.
