Having various stringed instruments hung around my study means that whenever I sneeze in here I get a chorus of ringing strings. Accompaniment for sternutation.

Bullshit. Most aren't and any companies who are have been shown to not be getting any actual value out of the technology.
You only hear this from corporations that have invested in replacing workers with LLMs.

Starting Alien: Earth and already it needs to slow the hell down. Rushing all the normal cues that build atmosphere and even making the classic audio cues feel rushed and sped up.

The minute you add 'roguelike' as a descriptor in front of the actual genre of your game, I'm out. You're either misusing the term or you've made something I have zero interest in because it's way overdone at this point.

"Metroidbrainia" is a term that fatally misunderstands what the mechanics of a Metroidvania are in an attempt to co-opt a popular term into a new context.
also sorry I am never going to call deduction games “metroidbrainias”. sorry. I am open to other terms but not to that one

With this much money I could rehire every game dev whose been laid off over the last 5 years, make dozens of games and turn some wicked profits.

But instead they're throwing it into a fire. Yes, very intelligent.
ICYMI: Microsoft’s charge “implies a more than $12 billion quarterly loss at OpenAI, said Firoz Valliji, an analyst at Bernstein.”

That “would mark one of the largest single-quarter losses for a tech company in history.”

Another surprising win on my side project today pushed a feature another tangible step closer to complete and it feels great.

Though I'm always (rightfully) suspicious of code that appears to work correctly the first time.

No Right Answers returns this week with: Design for Engagement

Often in games we try to design a game that is fun, but fun isn't a measurable, universal metric. Instead, let's talk about one that is - Engagement.

Engaging in some tasty schadenfreude tonight. I'm not above enjoying watching people who did me dirty fail publicly.

They can and will not. AI removes all creative agency from the user. Games are born of creativity and intention, two things AI (read: LLMs) are completely incapable of.
Then again, not a shock coming from the same company who had other brilliant ideas like the runtime fee.

Hit a real nice functional milestone on a feature for my side project and it feels good. Still needs some additional work, but seeing the thing actually work is always such a nice feeling.

Friendly reminder to folks to stay tuned after the game for the post credits scene where we see the real villain step out of the shadows and swear vengeance.

Our American friends may not know this but it's tradition in Canada to play Baseball until the field freezes and everyone puts on skates and then it's hockey.
