Just got off the phone with my cousin. The Melbourne Jewish community is inextricably linked to the Sydney one. So much sadness everywhere. He is also a member of Hatzolah, who were such heroes at Bondi too. 💔

I grew up listening to Wendy Harmer on Triple J. It was such a pleasure to find her and follow her on Bluesky. But because I dared to name antisemitism as the cause of the massacre on Bondi Beach, she did this. Such a shame when the people you admire reveal themselves this way. 😕

I hate hate hate that for the last three years I’ve visited my parents, a portion of the time each visit was spent glued to the TV with my dad watching unspeakable horror. I joked about this 2 days ago, but it’s really gallows humour. It’s the worst way to bond with a parent, in collective anger.
I was in Australia on October 7 2023. I was here last year when the Adass Israel shul was firebombed. I’m here, right now for Hannukah.

I think this is something Jews find hard to articulate. All minorities are subject to bigotry and discrimination and abuse. None of it is acceptable. But there's a very specific blind spot where people who would never dream of holding such attitudes about any other group think Jews Are Different
