Imagine getting hit by the bill and the ambulance

Yes. I think I've gained 5kg in 24 hours

What also amazed me is that drivers looked BEHIND them and gave way to us as we approached bike lane crossings at intersections. Absolutely unheard of back home

In fact, it was so easy it was almost boring. But I guess that's a sign of a city where biking is just a thing you do. It doesn't seem special at all.

Munich's an incredible bicycle city. Had to get to Allianz Arena for a stadium tour. 13km away. Borrowed bicycles. We did not have to ride on a road with cars at all. Bikes, bikes everywhere!

Yep, we stayed with friends in Switzerland. Best place to save money... soo expensive
coxyjindas.bsky.social
Certainly eating through our savings. But that's what they're for right 😉 costs so much just to get here, got to make the most of it

We are. 9 days to go, which is making me sad. But nearly 3 weeks so far of amazing memories

I noticed a LOT of American tourists in Florence and Salzburg. Not so many in Milan and none in Switzerland.
coxyjindas.bsky.social
Haha. I met a couple from California in pompeii, but I didn't ask. I figured if they didn't vote Trump they're embarrassed, and if they did, I'd rather not know given we were in a tour for the day 🤣

There's SO much to see, I've had to just be satisfied with what we can get to. And not dwell too much on what we can't get to. Especially challenging with autistic 12yo who has a very definite limit to sightseeing tolerance...

Not seeing any negativity toward American tourists. Though in Italy when someone was talking to me they said "you American?" And when I said "Australian" their face lit up. But I think that's just a general fascination with Australians 😅
coxyjindas.bsky.social
Won't get there unfortunately. We're travelling by train and it's out of the way

Rhein River Cruise is on the agenda this week.

Didn't manage to get to the salt mines. Spent hours in the fortress though. 12yo was very over it by then 😅
coxyjindas.bsky.social
There wasn't that much separated infrastructure other than along the river. But lots of painted lanes drivers respected, and filtered permeability everywhere with good signage. I couldn't read the place names well, but never got lost.

I think Salzburg was my favourite place to ride on this trip so far. And bicycles are clearly a preferred way for locals to travel. I saw many older people pootling about to the shops, mums and dads with cargo bikes and kids seats.

This framing by ABC Australia is appalling.

We most certainly sprawled along highways, freeways and stroads. It's not great in Australian cities, believe me.

In Wales, Cornwall, Edinburgh, London and so many places when most 30mph roads were changed to 20mph, people injured or killed by motor vehicles reduced by 20%+. With minimal change to journey times and £2bn saving in insurance costs it's a huge win. bit.ly/4gIBPlJ

"The single most important behaviour, design or regulation for creating streets conducive to walking and cycling, was physical separation between the modes"

We've got a new study out, learning from a broad mixture of street users, planners and designers

www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Highlights
For marginalised street users mode separation is the key to human-scale movement.
Streets conducive to walking and cycling have functional, safe and accessible design.
Professionals must approach street design, regulation and user behaviour holistically.
Combinations of influencing factors persuade people to either use or avoid a street.
There are no easy fixes to the public realm that will work for all non-drivers.

I just saw someone use the abbreviation “AI;DR” and I’ll be laughing for a while.

Storm have 4 in 27 years, with 2 others stripped. If they weren't, that's slightly more than the Broncos strike rate
