For months and months I've been trying to get away from my 'light, soft' paintings, then I tried out new paper and was just like, "Ok soft away". I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! The Alolan Vulpix is my favourite pokemon.

Wip Wednesday: Hubert comes back from a TWSITD misson without cleaning up first, he expects Ferdinand to realise the monster he's courting and break off all contact. But the results are not what he expected.

"Are you injured?" Was Ferdinand's abrupt greeting.

"No-"

Breath stolen from his lips as he was tugged inside the well lit parlor, the fire blazing bright illuminated the clothes strewn across the chaise lounge, the armchairs, the floor: Ferdinand was never so untidy when at ease. It would appear Ferdinand had had no intention of sleeping that night. As strong hands lifted him up, Hubert Instinctively hooked his legs around Ferdinand's hips and leaned into their embrace.

"My darling," Ferdinand breathed as he placed a kiss against the shell of Hubert's ear sending shivers down his spine.

"What-"

Ferdinand cut him off with a kiss and Hubert could not help the sigh that left his lips.

Oh how he had missed him, how he missed this, the calloused hands that brushed against his cheek, the taste of citrus mingled with something uniquely Ferdinand, the joy at receiving him despite the hour and his state. In his current state of illusion, Ferdinand would give his all to being the ideal partner, he never could do anything by halves. If Hubert asked for another kiss, he would get it, if he asked to run his hands through amber waves, he would be allowed. It almost felt like he was loved.

Tightening his grip on Hubert’s waist, Ferdinand tilted his head and Hubert yearned to sink into strong arms and allow the weight of Ferdinand's passion to swallow him up entirely until there was nothing left of him; asphyxiation by the one he loved, it would be a fitting end. But, Hubert reminded himself, there was a duty to be performed. The longer this charade continued, the greater the shame Ferdinand would feel upon ending their relationship.

Ferdinand, so thoroughly caught up in the thrill of his friend arriving back, he neglected to notice what it was that stained his hands and clothes.

"Ferdinand!" Hubert gasped when they next parted. "What is the meaning of all this?"

"Did you not think I would be glad of your arrival?" Ferdinand answered as he nuzzled his face against Hubert's hair. "Did you not suppose that I have hardly slept since you left, nor have I had the appetite for meals?"

No, the signs were present. The well lit room, the eagerness of which he answered the door, the books and clothes covering the floor. Hubert was the root of such worry and he would cut it out at once

"Ferdinand, look at me, look at yourself, is this a way a noble should behave?"

Elected to grab something from phone purgatory - Ferbies post marriage. Ferdinand does an interview to try and help fix Hubert's reputation
Not sure if I'll ever finish it but it was a fun concept to poke at

Ferdinand scoffed, tossing the slim volume back onto the table between himself and the journalist. "That is deeply inaccurate."
"Well, that's what we're here for if you want to correct the record," the woman gave a warm smile that did not quite reach her eyes. Ferdinand had been in politics long enough to recognise such things.
"You will report what I say accurately?" Ferdinand negotiated. One would think that such a term would go without saying, but the press preferred spectacle to truth.
The woman nodded only once. "Of course. I suspect your husband would have me killed if I printed lies."
Quite the aspersion, but perhaps not an inaccurate one.
"I would not be compelled to share further details with you if you did," Ferdinand coaxed, avoiding the insinuation. The woman's eyes narrowed — clearly she also knew a political answer when she heard one. "I do keep all of his letters."

"You both live in the capital, I can't imagine there are many."
"One a week for the past six years," Ferdinand corrected.
"Oh?" She prompted him, awaiting more details.
That at least, he supposed he could oblige. That was why he was here after all, to clear up some of the more unsavoury allegations against his husband. They were an interesting pair. Interesting enough to put several serials in circulation about them. Most very inaccurate, painting Hubert as some kind of villain.
One of them was scarily close to reality — he was not sure how Bernadetta was having issues shipped from her estate.
"I made a comment during the war. We were sharing tea and coffee," Ferdinand explained, a smile tugging at his lips at the memory. "He paid me a compliment — or an objective assessment

as he was want to insist. It was very unexpected at the time as we had not gotten on well prior. I was a little flustered, and suggested he keep any further compliments to writing."
"And he did?"
Ferdinand was not sure which way this trap was being laid. He addressed both. "Once we started courting he wrote me weekly. He also compliments me daily, if that is your real question, though it did take us both a little time to get there."
She nodded, scribbling something in her notebook without looking at it. "It made you uncomfortable?"
"No, but we had a very gradual courtship," Ferdinand admitted, tugging at a curl as he thought back on all their tea times together. "We were both generals in the war, Hubert was all but running it. My feelings progressed far more quickly than our relationship. He would monologue about how nice my hair

looked in the sun before we had so much as
shared a kiss. It was a little overwhelming."
Ferdinand felt his skin tingle, his cheeks heat almost pleasantly, as he recounted the memories.
"I hear he can be intense."
"He can also be quite hard to read, at least back then. Imagine taking tea everyday with someone you are so deeply infatuated with, thinking perhaps you are falling too fast. And then he gives you a glimpse that perhaps he is as far gone as you. It was enough to make my head spin."

"I would ask you to trust me when I say I'm well enough to resume my duties," he replied without hesitation. He sat down and tried a different angle. "Earlier, I went to town to see to a couple of personal matters. I dare say that the fresh air was… fairly agreeable."

His lady's expression turned grim. "I heard all about that." She leaned forward in her seat and propped her head on her hands, trying to express her point in the kindest way possible. "Hubert, it's not normal that a shopkeeper faints at the merest sight of you."

Close enough.

"Maybe he fainted for an unrelated reason," he defended himself.

"We are not having this discussion." Another sigh. "Hubert, you're prone to overworking yourself at the best of times, and I appreciate all that you do, but everything is under control. All that is required of you now is to focus on rest and recovery. If you must argue with someone, argue with Ferdinand."
