Ethics are pushed to the wayside when scientific advancement is on the line. These seven accounts, recently liberated from HBT’s archives tell the stories of both victims and perpetrators.

With most psychedelic drugs, you never know what you're going to get. But this mysterious mushroom from China - without fail - causes users to hallucinate tiny people: crawling up walls, popping out from under furniture and marching under doors. www.bbc.com/future/artic...

Only recently described by science, the mysterious mushrooms are found in different parts of the world, but they give people the same exact visions.

Horrible situation. Glad it was resolved, but I can help thinking that it’s allegorical to how the US is going right now…

We live in the most connected era in human history, yet loneliness is widespread.
Everyone wants a village, but no one wants to be a villager.
There is a paradox quietly eating away at contemporary life, and you have likely felt it yourself.

In 1949, C.S. Lewis’s The Abolition of Man warned that the final victory of man’s conquest of nature would not end in collective prosperity, but rather prosperity for a handful of men who had conquered the rest of us by first conquering human nature itself. We are living out his warning today.

book cover design is part of writing your novel. It is part of the experience of reading your book. Don’t use ai or readers will assume you used it throughout. #noai #genai

Sorely disappointed with DW today after not being able to watch a “documentary” on War of the Worlds (YouTube). Their inexcusable use of genAI ruined the experience and makes me wonder if they used AI to write the documentary as well. If DW uses ai in their documentaries, what about the news?

I'll often see people express displeasure with books having AI-generated covers because they can't trust AI wasn't involved in the text. Sure, but even if it wasn't, a gen AI cover is a problem on its own. It's a betrayal of real artists, and the harms caused by "AI" persist no matter the output.

So I've posted about seeing disinformation.

But let's say you're the one who's been caught reposting a lie, an AI fake, or other disinformation... You fell for it! And someone called you out, it's probably not the 1st time!

What now?

Some remedial steps 🧵 ↓
"It's ok if I post disinformation because it could be true"
"It's ok if I misrepresent a thing as happening now even if the article is 5 yo, because it's probably worse now"

It's ok if I mislead people, because I'm on YOUR side.

Rings a bell? Unfollow and block them. Poison to your community.
