Computation empowers people. It is unfortunately up to the people involved to act appropriately.
This is inconvenient information, but there is not one kind of AI/ML technology that only does the good use cases and a different kind of AI/ML that only does the bad use cases

Oh hi. I was just watching the vtuber community. Did you know it's actually full of awful people who have horrifying beliefs? But policing it is hard, because sexism is deeply ingrained in society.

Tiny voice women saying horrible stuff is dismissed as not counting.

But cities used to be affordable, and with lighter building regulations, they built fast and densified very quickly.

Why did that end? What brought about 'the Great Downzoning'?

Samuel Hughes evaluates the theories in a great new piece for Works in Progress.

The Great Downzoning - Works in Progress Magazine
It was once legal to build almost anything, anywhere. Then, in the space of a few decades, nearly every city in the West banned densification.

Lifelong academics have long accepted fundamentally broken systems, and taught trainees to do the same. Far too many are simply adjusting to our putrid current NIH. Some deep introspection needs to accompany this kind of organizing. Because ECRs (like me) with options are already abandoning ship.
Scientists must learn to join larger pro-democracy and people's movements, coalitions. Our science training may not have prepared us for such work, but we can no longer sit in the safety of our labs and expect the world to get better

The pivot happened in the 1950s, with the "radical" side of the political spectrum that would otherwise be promethean completely hollowed out by reactionary back-to-nature arguments laundered from the nazis. Out of the ashes of WW2, reactionaries won by completely subverting the opposition.
