Incredible piece from @petridishes.bsky.social with her usual humor but a lot of deepr resonance about the role of government in our society, and why ham-handed cuts are so damaging:

As someone that does a lot of federal hiring, @laurajedeed.bsky.social's story... wow.

"But if they missed the fact that I was an anti-ICE journalist who didn’t fill out her paperwork, what else might they be missing?"

There is a straight line from the impunity with which the administration was able to steamroll the civil service and the independent agencies that oversee it (MSPB, OSC) to this week's news about the Fed.

The Atlantic piece led me down a rabbithole to @michael-feinberg.bsky.social's longer reflection on his resignation from the FBI. We as a nation are worse off, and it's not even close.

"Government, too, is part of a delicate American ecosystem—as it erodes, crises that lay bare its indispensability will multiply." Beyond what's already broken, and the lives already lost due to USAID's dismantling, there unfortunately will be more consequences.

The Purged
Donald Trump’s destruction of the civil service is a tragedy not just for the roughly 300,000 workers who have been discarded, but for an entire nation.

A true leader
For those who watched the NBC on-field interview of Drake Maye, Hunter Henry and K’Lavon Chaisson, the reason that Mike Onwenu, Garrett Bradbury and Morgan Moses were there was due to Maye’s request.

Wanted entire OL there, but Will Campbell/Jared Wilson had departed quickly.

The U.S. Supreme Court playing cute Unitary Executive Theory games owns this boondoggle. We Admin Nerds noted to everyone: Article I and the Necessary and Proper Clause make it 100% clear that Congress can design flexible, institutional agencies that preserve agency independence.
Tillis is spot on. The Senate can't confirm a Trump toady to succeed Powell at the Fed. The rest of the game is now out in the open, and it doesn't end well.

Hard to overstate what a remarkable statement this is from a Republican senator — even a retiring one — accusing thte Trump White House of weaponizing DOJ to control the Fed:

"It is now the independence and credibility of the Department of Justice that are in question."

Of his testimony about Fed renovations, Powell says, “Those are pretexts,” saying this is about the Fed not doing what Trump wants.

Indeed, the MVP campaign is over.

Maye ends his regular season going 354-for-492 (72%) for 4,394 yards with 31 TDs and 8 INTs.
This should be it for Drake Maye: the Patriots are up 38-10 after a TreVeyon Henderson touchdown run.

This is crazy man. Bluesky is the only place I “promote” my newsletter or post my stories.

I’ve also never done a public sale before because I hate promo. As a woman in sports I also have to fight the understandable survival instinct to make myself small every day.

this is v v humbling!

this is incredible stuff. most state DOTs would spend tens of billions on highway expansions to try and see numbers like this (that wouldn’t even pan out anyway thanks to induced demand lol)
