When I fall in love again, I hope it feels familiar, like a warm voice asking where I've been, and how I got so cold. she/her

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

ODYSSEUS: who are all these strange men
PENELOPE: well, I'll tell you what they're definitely not, which is a 300 person polycule ruling in your absence

The way this society views aging is so baffling to me. Aging is a privilege and a blessing. So many people never even get to be the age that I am. The fear of dying or even APPEARING to be closer to death renders us unable to fully live.

If you think your job is not to tell the truth but to "challenge your audience's assumptions" if the latter is in tension with the former then you're going to end up lying. bsky.app/profile/larr...
For my part, I would say that questioning the framing of some Times stories—for example, the highlighting of Trump’s putative emotions or the foregrounding of what he says (even when, as is often the case, what he says is false)—is not an indication that I want my “views validated.”

I used Mandrake for a while in 2001 (liked it a lot) and then later on opted for a dual-boot with Ubuntu, but found I liked gaming too much so I switched to just Windows or using the flavor of Linux on my MacBook, but I've found myself curious lately to see what's new in Linux Land (tm).
28 years ago, I learned about this amazing thing called Linux.

I immediately drove down to Best Buy and bought a boxed set of Red Hat 5.0. Probably the best $50 I've ever spent!

What was your first Linux distro?

Just imagining how much better it would be if ALL news stories about vaccine-preventable illnesses were illustrated with pictures of people with the disease, not pictures of needle injections. If you must show something that people will find scary & unpleasant, make it the disease, not the cure.
I'm so tired of measles.

I'm also tired of people using needle shots on stories like this.

Show what measles looks like.

Letter below is by surgical oncologist and professor Dr. Michael Baum about how a character explaining chaos theory in a Tom Stoppard play sparked an expansion in his understanding of breast cancer, leading to exploration of adjuvant therapy that protects distant organs.
