saw someone say the next dem administration should learn from trump & simply enact their agenda without thought to norms or procedure, & i hate to break it to that person but the dems already do exactly what they want with power. they don't try to do things & fail, they try to do nothing & succeed

Until you realize you are at war with the people who own things and they do not care about your opinions or life at all, and you will be forced to submit to their will- for as long as you see everything thru the lens of negotiation and business, you will be trapped accepting profound loss.

what you are seeing with AI is what you are seeing with every other decision in every other industry to make unpopular, damaging decisions for the gain of the people who own them at the expense of the consumer and their employees.
this is exactly the problem-guilt as a long term strat is ineffective

It's a big problem at game studios and why so many have turned to algorithmic generation for placeholders - executives who know fuck-all about the game design process (despite claiming titles like "Lead Designer") will refuse to sign off on wireframe or sketches because they don't "look right".
it's mostly investors doing this to us, by the way. Yknow, the whole demand that assets look complete-ish at the concept stage? they don't know what a sketch is. The same thing happened to Disney with The Black Cauldron and it nearly bankrupted them. This is how bad having money erodes your brain

Fuck clankers.

There is no ethical use of Gen-AI in it's current form, I just dont understand how people who enjoy media in any form can form the opinion that Gen-AI in any form is morally correct.

This period of history is going to suck. All CEOs and politicians have turned into the most annoying Blockchain Bros.

If anyone is wondering why the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund is funding this bubble…

Why would anyone wanna work with someone who wants to let a plagiarism machine do their work for them so they don’t have to think and can misrepesent their skillset?

Lol. Rofl, even

Every time someone says they “only” use AI for references or composition it always ends up that the product is based off that. So I dunno who folks think they are fooling, like that suddenly makes it ok to use the automated theft machine cuz you added one more step.

"Slop-generated imagery suggests slop-generated writing. "

You undermine your own work when you slap slop beside it.
Every writer who generates a slop image for their work is a class traitor.

"I can't afford a visual artist"

So your solution is stabbing artists in the back? Stealing from them?

Furthermore, slop-generated imagery suggests slop-generated writing. That's how you're presenting yourself.

The thing thats so insidious about using AI this way is that one of the main ways artists get hired are studios looking for art references and they find us and reach out.

This is removing a major avenue to get work if they can just generate nameless derivations of our ideas.

I hope everyone understands that there is no such thing as an "AI hallucination"

AI Execs invented the term, so they can pretend that wrong answers or bad outputs are some type of flaw, that goes against the AI's programming, and that it's "supposed" to give you the "correct" answer.

The fascination with retro tech is more than just nostalgia, it's a yearning for using things offline; that were made more reliable; that weren't programmed for planned obsolescence; that allowed to you use, and own, physical media, not rent it per month; where the constraints pushed creativity.

Larian, in case you hadn't realized, we aren't just objecting to genAI being detectable in the final product. We are objecting to genAI being used AT ALL. AT ANY POINT. EVER. FULL STOP.

If you use it during the dev process but then replace it by the time the game ships, that doesn't make it okay.

Hey Larian, hey Swen. Just dont. Just dont use AI. Its that simple. If you're using it for Concept Art, you are replacing people. If you are using it for Writing, you are replacing people. If you are using it at all in the development of the product, then its in the final product. Just dont use it.
NEW: I spoke to Larian boss Swen Vincke about their ambitions for their new RPG Divinity, cutting down development time, pressures from Baldur's Gate 3, why BG3 wouldn't have happened without Tencent, how Larian uses generative AI, and much more www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...

- programs barely function
- energy prices
