No matter what you call it, documentation is essential for understanding and using data. Whether you're rescuing data or creating your own, be sure you have captured all of the relevant information!

(Yes, these are all different; no, not every dataset needs each of these)

this is the obvious correct answer and I do not know why you would buy water from these goop merchants
I thought the research was interesting, even if the conclusions it came to were unsurprising. What bugs me is that it's so busy trying to wring Meaning out of the information that it never gets around to pointing out that you can just buy the concentrate yourself and add your own water

Israel hunted a 70 year old lady down with a gun drone and then hoovered above to make sure she bled out next to her dying son. They both join almost 1,000 Palestinians Israel has massacred or maimed in its genocide during the "ceasefire".

sometimes i think human history is just a constant cycle of insecure men thinking wealth and power would address the void in their souls, then getting increasingly rageful/reactionary/nihilistic as each passing year shows this is not true and as the threat of death becomes increasingly less abstract

anything that they are "using against migrants" is

1) being used upon anyone they feel like including citizens
2) is enough to warrant action right now
They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.

Amnesty International, interviewing migrant detainees, identifies use of the confinement box. There can be no denying it is a torture prison

Bluesky’s head of trust & safety responding with a sarcastic image macro to a woman upset her husband was kidnapped by ICE is embarrassingly unprofessional & cruel behavior.

that account was then banned by Bluesky Trust & Safety. horrendously poor community management. what purpose does this serve?

Senior management may not realise this but my contacts within the social and affective community of open research will not remain my contacts if I unilaterally give away their contact details to an institution that wants to send them self-serving surveys.

Studios lament the loss of "company men" without looking at the differences in the ways Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were treated.

You get "company men" by being good to the men who work for the company.
From Jack Kirby to Steve Gerber to Alan Moore to pretty everybody else who ever worked for DC or Marvel, "Work for Hire" is one of the biggest con jobs ever pulled.

here are Ranganathan’s 5 Laws of Library Science.

1. Books are for use.
2. Every reader their book.
3. Every book its reader.
4. Save the time of the reader.
5. A library is a growing organism.

they can be read as a directive for technical efficiency. i read them as an ethical commitment. 📚
