Topics Mike Johnson thinks are serious:

- Super Bowl halftime entertainer
- getting a Nobel Prize for Trump
- terrifying naked bike riders

Topics he thinks are not serious:

- Epstein Files
- domestic violence
- being able to keep the govt open
- the neutering of Congress

Q: This has been reported for a while. Cory Mills was accused of beating a girlfriend in his DC apt. Are you concerned about these allegations?

JOHNSON: You have to ask Rep. Mills about that. He's been a faithful colleague. I don't know the details. Let's talk about things that are really serious

I was "selling religion" door to door at ~ age 5 (with adults). There was no expectation we could convert quickly. It took many visits to build trust that we were there to converse, not sell. That skill served me well when I moved to the suit and tie world.

Build rapport, gain trust, be patient.

Awareness is the most powerful of all human mental states:

When you become aware of something, you have only 2 options; do something or do not do something.

What you can never be again is unaware.
cascadia.bsky.social
People reconsider, often due to an event or awareness they have just had, but they have to process it in small bits. Telling them every belief they had for much of their life is "bad" only deepens their defense/resolve, never shaking it.

Former door-knocking, 5th gen, evangelist [now atheist for decades] here: Causing people to reconsider is as much about the expectation about speed of change as it is about the actual evolutionary change. Selling beliefs is as important as setting them.

NEW — I dug into the story of ICE abducting a 13-year-old boy in Massachusetts and moving him 500 miles across state lines without notifying his mother, local cop's complicity, and how the federal government's justification for such cruelty is already falling apart:
ICE took a 13-year-old they said had a gun. Local cops say he didn’t.
Now he's detained 500 miles away from his Massachusetts home.

OK - they finally may be reading the room - not that "they" should be the ones in the room - but we are fucking ready for our own retribution - and we need leaders that not only talk the talk - they walk this walk - and it isn't this guy

JD Vance can dismiss the Young Republicans as a college group chat.

But let's be clear: the group chat includes a State Senator, a Trump Admin official, and multiple Republican staffers — and some of the worst comments came from folks associated with Mike Johnson, Elise Stefanik, and Mike Lawler.

The United States has no obligation to host foreigners who wish death on Americans.
The State Department continues to identify visa holders who celebrated the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk. Here are just a few examples of aliens who are no longer welcome in the U.S.:

The ~$250 mm he paid is a rounding error in this $220 b net worth - however torching it was good business for Blue Origin and AWS that would have been blanked byTrump.

I'm sorry, is the Trump Administration talking to a tech platform?

Is it...requesting content moderation?
Today following outreach from @thejusticedept, Facebook removed a large group page that was being used to dox and target @ICEgov agents in Chicago.
The wave of violence against ICE has been driven by online apps and social media campaigns designed to put ICE officers at risk just for doing their jobs. The Department of Justice will continue engaging tech companies to eliminate platforms where radicals can incite imminent violence against federal law enforcement.

🚨MAJOR BREAKING: Rep-Elect Adelita Grijalva announces her election results will be OFFICIALLY certified tomorrow, destroying Mike Johnson’s last excuse to delay her swearing in.

“Mike Johnson needs to do his job so I can do mine.”

No more lies.
No more delays.
Swear her in!

3/ The Senate keeps voting on 2 bills to reopen.

1. The GOP bill - it raises premiums on 22m Americans and lets Trump keep acting illegally.

2. The Dem bill - it stops the premium increases and checks Trump's illegality.

Each time, neither bill gets the necessary 60 votes.

I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

Things to do in the future:

1. Putting them all on trial for crimes against humanity at the Hague

2. Totally reforming entire government to root out corruption and abuse of power so this bullshit never happens again

3. At some point you’d imagine, brunch

Honestly, it needs to go further than this.

We need to confront the fact that democracy and wealth hoarding cannot coexist. Allowing people to amass the resources of a small state/country allows them to act as such, which is inimical to a shared society of “one person, one vote.”
johnrogers.bsky.social
“No Kings” is great , but we really don't get a functioning democracy back until we internalize, bone deep, the instinctive response to this and every other statement like it: “I don’t care what that rich guy thinks.”

Make it your morning affirmation. Say it ten times at the top of every hour.

watching the UKs green party elect an actual unafraid leftist into leadership and see party membership double in under a month is once again endless proof that if you stand up for leftist causes and treat the electorate like adults, you’ll win people over easily

We should have ended it all when he started openly monetizing the presidency at his DC hotel & sending his kids to represent the 🇺🇸 government at official international events. But he is One Special Boy and we appear to no longer be a serious country interested in the rule of law or the Constitution.

Trump's conversation with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is caught on a hot mic. Hard to tell exactly what they are talking about, but Subianto asks Trump about meeting Eric Trump and Don Jr, who supposedly have nothing to do with government while they run the family business.

The fact that top Republicans are already fearmongering about, lying about, the No Kings rallies this Saturday, across the US, tells you how worried they are about public pressure and protest against their reactionary, autocratic, anti-American agenda.
