What a strange framing and characterization. How does one describe his blatantly dishonest, racist question about taxes as “press[ing] the Mayor-elect on his policy proposals”? In what way does this lying troll emerge as a “winner“?

And the great learning from our libraries "will be delivered to you by an army of overworked, underpaid, too-often verbally abused library staff, who deserve so much better from Britain, from their government, from the executives of the British Library, and from all of us."
Great piece by Zadie Smith. When the right talks about classics or "Western" culture, these works are only important to the extent that it demonstrates their superiority, they have no interest in art in and of itself beyond that www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Today the 3rd Circuit Court ordered the @post-gazette.com to restore our contract it illegally tore up 5 years ago. That’s our health care, PTO, right to a 40-hr. work week, short-term disability and so much more we’ve struck for 3+ years.

I go to a 6 am gym class and on my way back there were folks already lined up outside our local food pantry. Four people who looked in their 70s — among them a man listening to the radio about the Mets. They pushed carts ahead of them.
I just don’t think we’re freaking out enough about this SNAP cut. I have spent my whole career working with people who rely on SNAP for food. People who work multiple jobs. Who have kids. What do you think happens when 1/8th of the population can’t buy food anymore? Everything is going to collapse.

But his assertion that diversity weakens unions ignores two things. First, labor unions have a long history of multiethnic coalitions. Second, it was the capitalists and political elites who tried to *exploit* ethnic divisions to maintain power. There is only one person here trying to stop unions:

Dad, may he rest in peace, always said Mario was a gift to NY + he should have been president “but America wasn’t ready for an Italian president.” Watching his son capitalize on this racist BS makes my stomach turn. There’s no shame in losing a race run well, but there’s tons in whatever this is.
So here's Andrew Cuomo reacting to Maria Bartiromo wondering if Mamdani will "change the look of New York" and have Muslim women "completely covered up," telling her that Mamdani "doesn't understand New York culture" because he has "dual citizenship" and "he's a citizen of Uganda."
