So far I am enjoying Skate Canada, but I do kinda miss the demonic, smoke-breathing moose from last year.

“We need to rename type 1 diabetes.”

No we do not.
What we need to do, as type 1 diabetics, is to stop insinuating that diabetes is a dirty wood which actively harms diabetics of ALL types.
Educate and advocate, but don’t knock others down. Seriously do better.
Just started I Want To Burn This Place Down yesterday, and the first essay is as good a description of what it’s like to live with #T1D as I’ve read. Highly recommended.
One thing about me is I’ll always turn signing copies of my book at my beloved @printbookstore.bsky.social into a Read Diabetics Day party (I just made up that holiday so go ahead and jot it down in your calendar) with a brand new copy of the gorgeous @maris.bsky.social collection to give as a gift
Watched season 2 of Interview With A Vampire this weekend. (The second season was recently added to Netflix.) While I liked the first season, I loved the second. Up there with Slow Horses for the most enjoyable seasons of TV (not counting limited series) I’ve seen in a while.

"Take Care of This House" from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, a musical about the times American democracy has been in peril, sung by the late, great Patricia Routledge.

The movie version of this just got even better.
the Muppets have been real quiet since the Louvre heist
If someone told me this was live footage of Barbara, I wouldn’t necessarily question it.
OK. Nonetheless, quintessential Portland.
Portland is always going to be Portland and I love it.
My husband worked as a waiter and in food services for decades, and he’s told me that if he had ever seen me be rude to waitstaff at any time, he would have dumped me so fast I wouldn’t have known what hit me.
You should sever any relationship, including a close friendship, with someone who is rude to waitstaff.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

I view masking the same way I view washing my hands after using the bathroom: It’s a very small sacrifice I make to not get sick and not get other people sick.

I mean, I’d love it if we required indoor air filtration in public-facing buildings bc it takes the burden off the individual.

Alas…
I am not interested in living in a society of Universal Public Masking and neither are most people. This ask is not reasonable, and the invocation of solidarity in service of it is ridiculous.
We have the opposite problem. We get 1000-1200 kids. It’s fun, but kind of insane.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my Canadian friends! (And my usual reminder to Americans that mid-October is harvest time; I doubt pilgrims in New England were pulling in their harvest in late November! 🤣)

“More than 4000 public servants lost their jobs ….. The CDC now has no capacity to respond to emerging infectious threats [or] foodborne illnesses. There is no infrastructure to contain outbreaks or coordinate with local health officials.”

A must-read to understand how bad the CDC massacre was. ⬇️
For more information about the Friday night massacre at CDC, I wrote up an analysis of who got terminated and what that means for public health.

Grateful to @saveamericamvmt.bsky.social for supporting and amplifying. We are in really terrible trouble.

Would love to get to NY to see this. Saw Bill Rauch’s same-sex Oklahoma at the OR Shakespeare Festival. His reinvention of musicals is kinda brilliant. And his powers of persuasion border on Jedi mind trick. I mean, he got the R&H org to let him do a queer Oklahoma and he got ALW to OK a queer CATS.
A version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's loved-and-loathed musical “Cats,” will transfer to Broadway this spring. The reimagined “Jellicle Ball” is set in the underground ballroom scene, a queer subculture built around dance competitions.

Still can’t quite believe there’s an adaptation of a gay M/M erotic hockey romance novel coming our way. If this isn’t picked up in the US, I’m going to be so pissed (and/or asking friends back in Canada for bootlegs.)
The trailer for ‘HEATED RIVALRY’ starring Connor Storrie & Hudson Williams.

It follows a pair of leading Major League Hockey players who harbor a secret: Away from their rivalry on the ice, they are secretly lovers.

Premieres November 28 on Crave.

Anybody who is still being strict and #covidconscious who swims at an indoor pool, what protocols do you follow? I understand chlorine kills COVID but there’s still getting to and from the pool. Haven’t swum since 2019 but would like to get back to it. Thx!
Just returned from spending the weekend in “war-ravaged” Portland.
