I really enjoyed Train Dreams. I know there's been a mixed response to the narration, but I'm kind of fond of that style of literary adaptation. It always reminds me of Tony Takitani, which turned a Murakami short story into an extended montage.

It's #LetterboxdFriday Here's my #LastFourWatched

Four fairly solid new releases. Most underwhelmed by Park Chan-wook's latest. Hopefully I'll be more impressed when I see the Wake Up Dead Man in the cinema tonight.

I had some fusion cuisine for lunch, and this stuff is *stridently* garlicky. It might have reached the level of Too Much Garlic. I'll be tasting this for days.

Master and Commander: The Nutmeg of Consolation

Probably some others as well, but I think the name alone makes it a great follow-up to the The Far Side of the World.

Oh wow. If I Had Legs I'd Kick You is fantastic. One of my favourite films of the year.
a close up of a woman 's face with a tear running down her face .
Alt: A close up of Rose Byrne in If I Had Legs I'd Kick You saying "Also, I don't get sad." She looks VERY sad. That's acting, baby.

It's #LetterboxdFriday! Here's my #LastFourWatched:

A pretty solid neo-noir thriller, Lynne Ramsey's pizzagate flick, a Sidney Lumet classic, and an interesting but sometimes dour Charlie Kaufman.

Sweet! The Mastermind is coming to Mubi (UK) on December 12.

Careful out there, UK film fans. There's a pretty big sale on Criterion Collection stuff. And it's at HMV and Zavvi if you don't like shopping at Amazon. I've already fallen prey to it and got a few of my favourites.

Just watching The Beast In Me on Netflix, and it's the first I've heard the term 'L'appel du vide' - the urge to jump when you're in a high place - and it's good to know it's common enough to be named! fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appel_d...

A couple of underwhelming new releases, but a couple of classics in there too.

This is how they should bring back Bond.
Happy partially muscled skeleton screaming before vanishing day to all those who celebrate.

Serious, is anyone else seeing this? There are some *weird* cultural issues going on in this show.
Was not expecting Pluribus to get so, uh, political? so fast. Pretty compelling show.

I watched the films in this double set earlier in the week. Both are great, but I was particularly impressed by Deadly Circuit. It's a kind of existential tragicomic noir and reminded me a lot of some recent Argentine films. If you liked La Flor or Trenque Lauquen you should seek it out!
UK: Two twisty Polars come courtesy of Claude Miller and actor Michel Serrault; THE INQUISITOR and DEADLY CIRCUIT.

Special features include many archival materials as well as audio commentary by critic Rachael Nisbet and new booklet writing by Adam Scovell. Also available as a UHD release.

It's #LetterboxdFriday - here's my #LastFourWatched:

Another classic by Malick. Two pretty great films by Claude Miller, and a subdued Chilean folk horror.

It's #LetterboxdFriday 📽️! What's your #LastFourWatched?

I've been keeping up with my Malick streak, including the incredible directors cut of Tree of Life. I also checked out Old Joy on Mubi, and Bigelow's latest film on Netflix.

Happy #LetterboxdFriday 📽️ - here's my #LastFourWatched -

After my PTA watchthrough, I was in the mood for more Philip Seymour Hoffman, hence The Savages. Saw a couple of Coen pics, and was pleasantly surprised that Sister Midnight works as a halloween movie!
