Really excited for people to see the second episode of PantoSplaining tomorrow as I think its one of the funniest things we've ever done. Every panto poster is like a very specific slice of pop culture history and I love them so follow @pantosplaining.bsky.social if you havent already please.

Don't know how this pod has escaped my attention 'til now. That's my play queue fattened up for Christmas, then.

30 YEARS AGO TODAY: the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party is opened by Reeves & Mortimer covering Hawkwind's Silver Machine. No explanation, no lyrical changes unless a cameo by the riff from Day Tripper counts, never released, and they weren't hosting it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGeb...

They haven't yet got around to throwing the cards marked "air fryers" "Royal Family" and "rebadged old telly clip show" up in the air to see where they land yet. #ChristmasTV

MARVELLOUS. Worth noting that this was the continuity on BBC Two AND BBC One Wales this evening. (It would've been in-character if he'd been surprised University Challenge had stopped being on ITV.)

When will everyone finally admit that the *worst* thing the BBC does is: not having the football BBC DOG in the same position as the iPlayer live feed BBC DOG.

To be fair, Free Movies for the entire life of the service would be a pretty good deal.
Nov 1990: Ad for Rain Man; Fatal Attraction; White Mischief; Personal Services; Crocodile Dundee II; Emmanuelle IV; A Fish Called Wanda; Twins; Coming to America; Last Emperor; Scandal; Planes, Trains and Automobiles; My Stepmother is an Alien; The Adventures of Baron Munchausen; Tuff Trax, and more

NICHE DISCOVERY OF THE DAY: I always liked how the front cover of Cuckooland's "Pop Sensibility" (Damaged Goods, 1995, art credited to Paul Petard) looked like a Tom Paterson comic panel. Just discovered it's based on the first ever panel of a Calamity James strip (1 Nov 86).

Extraordinary Touch and Go fact. David Lowe, who wrote it, also went on to write the Countryfile theme, and the BBC News music which has been on for over 25 years now. #totp
