If you try to use #ChatGPT, EVEN the "SearchGPT" function, with #Boolean keywords, you will utterly fail. It is a whole different type of searching the web (and again, you ONLY do that with " #SearchGPT," NOT regular ChatGPT). #onlineliteracy #infolit

Like my (surprisingly, orthodox!) Mormon father said when he was our bishop, "Our mission in life is to be uncomfortable, and if we are not uncomfortable, we should get there as soon as possible."

He later shortened it to "Become uncomfortable with being comfortable."
ALA has been broken for years now, TBF, and this is just one more step.
I don't have something I can link y'all to yet, but I have some very credible and important information I need to share.

The American Library Association laid off what I've heard is 15 people this week.

Among them was the director of the Office for Intellectual Freedom. ALA has no OIF anymore.

“people love talking to their computers!” no, they really don’t, i worked for a company whose product used voice control as the primary input, no, people really, really don’t love this

people are repeating things i said in this trying to defend a neutralizing strain of co-option so im going to now turn off replies and encourage you read each post slowly, think about it for a good while. & i’ll remind you that i have reported on countless protest movements over the past five years.
If you are a creator, I want you to listen to two pieces. Gabriel Faure's Requiem and my "AI-written" EIN FUGUE, which was an experiment that proved definitively that music generators cannot create the simplest artistic melody without borrowing from another inspiration
If you are a writer, no AI has human feelings, experiences, or anything resembling humanity. If you need proof of this, read any post by @ashleyambersava.bsky.social. No AI can write with the effervescent energy she does.
If you are an instructional designer, you can program an AI tool to generate a plan or an asset all you want to, but a HUMAN has to place that asset in the learning environment to interact with the instructor, learner, etc.
If you are an educator, the only teacher who could be replaced with AI is one that does not follow proper instructional design or (at least) curriculum planning in the slightest. If you care about your students, at a minimum, you will not be replaced.
If you are a librarian, you could not be more wrong. If anything, AI provides MORE incentive for information literacy skills and critical thinking. AI is your job security.
"AI is a danger to my profession."

No, it is not. Stop this madness.
We kind of are, though... just look at CdA.
I just remixed some of my mid-career (so far) OERs into relatively different materials on
@oercommons.bsky.social! This is possibly one of the least-used (certainly one of the least well-used) 5Rs of OERs.

Instructional vs. Educational vs. Learning Technology

Discuss! Is this semantics or are the different terms fundamentally different?

Vile and racist comments when they think no outsiders can listen in. Because Chatham house rules, right? A lot of bold, outside-– box thinking going on here on “forbidden” topics.

Try me!

It's from the broadway musical Chess which, in another life, I shall actually get to see.

Lots of us have great-grandparents names who were absolutely changed when they came here, and when people say otherwise, they're assuming your great-grandparents name was in the Roman alphabet.
Now, more than ever, it's important to understand why so many the myths we tell ourselves about immigration are actually very harmful.

First of all, your great-great-grandparents names *were not changed* at Ellis Island. No one there had the authority to do that.
Computers make decisions, or commit actions that are yes/no.

Humans make choices, or commit actions that are yes/no/or/and.

Do not let a computer, of any kind, turn your choices into decisions.
