People widely support policies of ecosocialism. They balk at the term "degrowth," like the apolitical (but easily co-opted)"well-being economy," & are surprisingly supportive of "ecosocialism," which has the imperative of "removing the capitalist class from control of finance & means of production"
I'm excited to announce this new study, published in The Lancet Planetary Health, which explores public support for degrowth and ecosocialist transformation. The findings are quite surprising.

Exactly what I’ve always said. It’s a good word because it means specific things, but it’s not the word to use when talking to anyone but academics or sustainability wonks.
Second, the word "degrowth" is a crucial analytical and scientific term, but - depending on the context - perhaps less useful as a public-facing political slogan, as it is easily misunderstood....

In simple terms, brown on this graph is India's share and blue is China's share.
The trigger? India effectively halted all imports of petroleum into Nepal in 2015, an "undeclared blockade", which was "masked as constitutional concern".

EU - and UK - need to realise that green approaches are the future & that trying to slow the regulations that boost these markets will only help Chinese competitors, as they are already investing heavily in the transition
I particularly liked this:

"In 10 years we will ask ourselves: why did we not show more courage? Why did we try to slow down technologies that will define this century? Europe is still very good at manufacturing. We should try to compete."
