40 years ago today, we lost seven heroes aboard Challenger. As an astronaut who commanded the space shuttle after this tragedy, I think about them often. Their courage pushed the boundaries of exploration. Today, we remember their sacrifice and the legacy they left behind.

Lots of NC/SC people on Facebook upset with meteorologists that we didn't have a devastating ice storm as predicted.

Sorry to hear you'll have heat when it's 5°F?

Sorry you can cook your family a hot meal?

Sorry you've got running water?

Sorry a tree didn't fall through your bedroom?

If you dont know:
Space Heaters draw an IMMENSE amount of energy. wall outlets are designed to handle this
Power strips and extension cords are NOT.

also recommended to remove any other plugs from an outlet as well, only use one space heater per outlet with no other devices.
DO NOT PLUG SPACE HEATERS INTO POWER STRIPS

Did you know that this account is a pilot program that may or may not be continued and even expanded to NWS field offices?

Not much in the way of Aurora so far in Western NC. A large peak at 7pm showed some cotton candy, otherwise it stayed low on the horizon and has diminished at around 9pm. Hopefully stronger stuff to come over the next 24 to 36 hrs. #aurora #darkskies #astronomy
