Last night just a tinge before 8:30 pm then nothing. Swpc shows it is settling down.

Not much in the way of Aurora so far in Western NC. A large peak at 7pm showed some cotton candy, otherwise it stayed low on the horizon and has diminished at around 9pm. Hopefully stronger stuff to come over the next 24 to 36 hrs. #aurora #darkskies #astronomy

Jupiter spins at over 28000 mph making a full revolution in less than 10 hours. The red spot (upper right) disappears and Moon Io makes transit (lower right) during wonderful winter imaging session . Get out and enjoy Jupiter at its brightest & all the winter sky!

Our researchers reveal that light pollution disrupts nocturnal insects & spiders' movements.🏙️🕷️

Dr Rochelle Meah & Prof Nicholas Roberts highlight two key effects:

1️⃣ Masked day-to-night transitions. 🌙🕷️
2️⃣ Blinded polarized light for navigation.☀️🦋

The Geminids were fairly active Saturday night before clouds rolled in. I would say they were on par at 2 per minute, but a really nice one would come along about every 10 or 15 minutes. John LaShell and John Boston got in some imaging during the event and we had a few outreach opportunities.

Christmas in Lansing was a great opportunity to connect with a community which has the potential to be on the cutting edge of circadian supportive lighting. Special thanks to David and Amy Heflin for performing DSI outreach and a very special thanks to Chris and Renée for allowing us to contribute!

Galilean binoculars (William Optics Cat Eyes - each a 168.00 value) were donated to respondents who were found to provide constructive feedback or who encouraged several other survey responses. One respondent each from Jefferson and W. Jefferson. Congratulations to one of the recipients seen here!

We were not very optimistic with regard to the weather. November's DSO night turned out fantastic! We got to see just about every object worth sharing through our many various optics, Jupiter being the exception as it was a little too low at the end of the night. #darkskies

Final program at 221 access for the year! Thank you so much to the park staff for letting us enrich the experiences of the campers from time to time this year. We are looking forward to future events next year and many years to come.

Night 2 of aurora was not as good as it appeared to be low on the horizon and constrained directly north. No activity was detected at around 10pm so we packed up. We were able to share a few views of Saturn, Double Cluster, Andromeda, and the Pleiades while doing LP outreach.
