What a beautiful tribute to Rob Reiner from Stephen King. Reiner, by far, made the best King adaptations out there.

Also, it reads at the byline:

“By Stephen King
Mr. King is the author of numerous works of fiction.”

Uhm, 65 novels, 5 nonfiction books, 200+ short stories ….

He ate at this restaurant every day. When he didn’t show, the chef saved his life.
Charlie Hicks, 78, a regular at the Shrimp Basket stopped showing up. The chef went looking for him and ended up saving his life.

Zack here points to one of the core features of our present moment that makes it difficult to identify the current US regime. He says that a country that "still has reasonably free & fair elections" must be a democracy. Note the present tense! Yet elections are only free & fair until they're not...
So what does this mean for democracy at present?

I had a really great conversation with @stevelevitsky.bsky.social on this question — one that clarified our disagreements and, more importantly, showed how much we agree on the political fundamentals here
