Britain is not unusual in facing winter pressures this year: hospitals are struggling with flu across the northern hemisphere.

What makes us unusual is the chronic shortage of beds, which makes winter crises inevitable, year after year

Britain’s hospitals average 90% bed occupancy throughout the year, and 95% in winter.

This is not normal!

It's worth noting that the Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies are now prosecuting the culprits, even though they were powerful people. This shows the system is working.

I'm more optimistic about Ukraine eradicating its corruption than the U.S. tbh

Trumpian Corruption Is Worse Than Ukrainian Corruption

One of the craziest things I remember reading about prior to the war was back during the hong kong protests there were Ukrainian ultras that flew all the way out there to fight.

Could not square that peg. But I think it all kinda jives with the ultra right wing corruption funding militias.

this isn't a zelenskyy specific issue, though. I'm not saying he's some paragon of ethics, but the problem definitely predates him. I lived in kyiv in the mid-90s & a "culture of corruption" was probably the #1 thing local journos wrote (and talked) about, even then.

I've sung and composed operas, but I'm not a huge opera fan.
This one is an exception: The music's (and play's) Expressionist language just makes one sad soldier's oppression and descent into madness all the more heartbreaking. Its message of how poor people are kept down resonates deeply with me.

WTF is wrong with people? Why would a company tell employees to hug each other? Even worse, a judge said it isn't sexual on the face of it! Telling them to wrap arms around coworkers sure sounds freaky to me. Am I wrong?

This company encouraged hugs. An ex-employee says that led to sexual assault.
A federal lawsuit filed by a former employee alleges that a colleague took advantage of a hugging culture at Camden Development to sexually assault her.
