don't gloat over people getting kidnapped on the street or businesses failing just because the victims ignorantly voted for this. they fell for propaganda and were lied to. they can be victims, too.

authoritarians impose zero-sum games on all of us in order to control us. "work with me to put those people in camps, or find yourself in a camp." of course it works, but only if enough people fall for it. we have safety in numbers.

Rising tides lift all boats, and almost nothing is truly zero-sum.

talk to your neighbors. engage them. talk to them about what is happening. find common ground with non-nazis you disagree with, and ally yourselves with people you normally wouldn't. make yourself a safe person to speak with for a normal person who fell for propaganda. reduce ignorance.

a problem with having a narrow margin of decent people in society is that the adage "one third are willing to sit back and watch while another third slaughters the final third" requires very little tipping in either direction for things to get bad, fast.

after the awful awful mess the first we found ourselves in 2020 after four years of beehive kicking and foot-gunning ourselves, i couldn't wrap my mind around the idea that my fellow citizens might sit out the 2024 election or worse, vote for this a second time. that's part of the reckoning we face.

i remember clearly 2017 charlottesville, thinking "we have reckonings coming. if we don't come to terms with and address having Nazi neighbors, we are fucked," and then almost everyone was so relieved in 2021 that the big orange baby wasn't shoved down throats anymore they zoned out for four years

The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.

A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.
