It’s funny how black people are expected to reach across the aisle to voters like these, while no one ever expects them to reach across the aisle to black people. Amazing who gets to be human, and who doesn’t.

POLITICO: “.. They referred to Black people as monkeys and ‘the watermelon people’ and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies .. and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

Hopefully the whole Bari Weiss thing and Ezra Klein thing starts waking people up to the fact that corporate media is mostly populated with mediocre people who have made millions and gained unbelievable influence because they threaten nothing and tell wealthy people exactly what they want to hear.

I’m sick of how if somebody is rich enough their stupidity is our problem. That’s not fair to actual people

This also isn’t true!!! There is a public consultation NOW OPEN and you can go have your say. Obviously they want to present it as a done deal but it’s not.

When it comes to intimidating racist protests including outside our homes or place of worship, Black and Asian people are supposed to just accept it and the government saying “we hear you” and “it is right to protest this” and “I love flags me”. No thought of “cumulative impact” for us!
peterwalker99.bsky.social
NEW: Home Office announces planned new anti-protest powers, mainly aimed at pro-Gaza protests like those for Palestine Action. Police will be able to consider the "cumulative impact" of repeated protests and potentially order that they be relocated.

(although i would be very amused by a completely regionalised-federalised uk and then the midlands seceding)
bensohawon.bsky.social
yup. which is why i do not blame you guys at all. Along with brexit, the biggest bait-and-switch i've ever seen in my life. a disgrace.
bensohawon.bsky.social
having separate governments to cater their specific regional requirements might have the benefit of giving them what they actually want, curbing resentment at getting governments they didn't vote for, and fostering diversity of political opinion that levels the playing field.

i've long been behind the idea that, should by some miracle the union endure, the country should be a federal republic split on population lines: scotland, wales, n england, mid england, sw england, se england, and ldn with devomax parliaments. the english are not actually politically unified, so

I'm sorry: "if I wish to see a virgin on-screen"?
My Favorite Actress Is Not Human
Tilly Norwood doesn’t need a hairstylist, has no regrettable posts, and if you wish to see a virgin on-screen, this is one of your better chances. That’s because she’s AI.

Please. The Times was always just the bigoted opinions of The S*n upcycled for people who thought they were too posh & refined to read the tabloids
Jonathan Portes @jdportes.bsky.social

The Times finds it "unacceptable" that people who came here legally n 2021 and have been living and working here since should allowed to stay.
The sad decline of a once great newspaper into ignorant xenophobia and casual racism

There is a more pressing issue. Ministers must ensure that the vast numbers of immigrants who arrived in the so-called Boriswave of 2020-21 are not automatically absorbed into the permanent population. They are about to cross the the five-year threshold into ILR, yet Labour continues to dither.Ms Mahmood must freeze the status of this huge cohort while a new residency regime is finalised. A million or more extra permanent residents in these islands, let in on the nod, is simply unacceptable. Finally, the home secretary must acquaint herself, and the public, with an accurate estimate of the actual number of foreign nationals living here, what taxes they pay and what services they consume. Without hard data, all the political parties are fumbling around the dark.
