I listen to hundreds of new songs every year and yet I have the title track to Grease stuck in my head.

Lol that’s what’s keeping you up at night
A Netflix-Warner Bros. deal looks like an anti-monopoly nightmare. It would create one massive media giant with control of nearly half of the streaming market—giving Americans fewer choices over what and how they watch, and putting American workers at risk.

Spotify is garbage on every count: Its treatment of artists, its ICE advertising, the CEO's investment in military AI, its leading role in the commodification and AI slopification of music, its terrible audio quality—you name it.

So I quit, and put together a complete guide to getting off Spotify:
How to quit Spotify
This Black Friday, here's a guide to finding the best Spotify alternative

I mean, I can remember when we had commercial FTA lording it over us, when we never got shows day and date that they got released, we never got Brazilian, or Italian or Korean shows or movies.... Its just not true
It has also been terrible for consumers, which we used to call audiences
Opinion: Netflix did not invent the world of streaming, but it is the most successful operator in this new dispensation. However, it remains to be seen whether its success in knowing what its customers want to watch can be matched by an enduring ecosystem for creative talent. on.ft.com/48FvQul

My new favourite genre of England pundit is the one that keeps repeating ‘this is not a strong Australian team’ in ever-increasing frustration. #Ashes 🏏

Don’t think the rule of law will have much priority either.
My teen, who had dreamt of being an astrophysicist, just told me he wants to go to law school because, “Science isn’t going to be a priority in the US in the future…I don’t want a job where I’ll be constantly worried my funding will be taken away.”

Gutting. How many future scientists have we lost?

I'm not sure it's in the self interest of America's tech bro billionaires to suggest that we bring back public executions to punish the most destructive people in our society.
A Palantir billionaire just called for public hangings.

“It's time to bring back masculine leadership to protect our most vulnerable,” writes Joe Lonsdale.

This is where Silicon Valley authoritarianism is heading:

So frustrating that because of the source bad information just gets amplified. This article is just bad and wrong and does more damage than good to Australian artists

What utter garbage. Spotify wouldn’t even care about national play rates. Maybe if you want Oz music to thrive I could list 1000 things you could do first. Like more venues, rules that prevent real estate pushing venues out over sound laws, funding to support young artists
It’s no accident that foreign streaming services do little to promote Australian music and podcasts to Australians…and it’s no accident that our governments have chosen not to do more to fix it. Local content matters more in the digital age than ever

Why your Spotify Wrapped probably doesn’t have any new Australian music on it
If you don't have Australian artists on your Spotify Wrapped, you're not alone - it's the result of a structural, not individual, problem.

If you run a business and get AI to design your logo, you are advertising to the World that you would prefer to have a shitty logo in order to save a few hundred quid and would be likely to cut corners elsewhere in your operation.
