Building organization entails attending not only to one's own base but to the broader organizational ecosystem as a whole.

• Who else is inhabiting the same ecosystem?
• What is each org's niche (role) within it?
• What essential niches are currently most undervalued (and thus most under-occupied)?
Most of my views from 10 yrs ago were on the losing side of internal org votes but are now in the majority.

To participate in power, one must give up conditioning one's continued participation on winning the argument of the day.

With long-term dedication, one can lose the battle but win the war.

Perhaps what I love most about @tamaranopper.bsky.social's mind is that it does not flinch from unpleasant truths; instead, she absorbs and highlights them in order to show how our assessments and strategies are often weakened by wishful thinking and can cause us to ignore crucial pieces of reality.
This week, I talk to @tamaranopper.bsky.social about abolition in practice — how people learn through engagement with state violence, what gets in the way of developing shared analysis, and why abolitionists need to take recruitment and counter-recruitment seriously.

I discuss why abolitionists should consider cops and ICE to be workers.

Mrs. Doubtfire, because it's the only movie that everyone in my entire nuclear family of seven—my dad, mom, mom's mom, sister, two brothers, and I—enjoyed watching, and whenever it came on TV, we actually stopped fighting about what to watch. I'm thankful it gave us all a chance to share a laugh.
What movie are you most thankful for? (not necessarily your favorite!)

🌱 Childhood, part 1: birth to age 26
🌿 Adulthood, part 1: ages 26–47
🌳 Adulthood, part 2: ages 47–67
🍃 Adulthood, part 3: ages 67–87
🍂 Childhood, part 2: age 87 to death

My childhood wasn't happy, but so far adulthood has been a joy and a blessing, and I've high hopes for childhood, part 2. 🙏

Thinking about this on a left-right axis is not going to be helpful in analysis and understanding. Many forces at play here. I know I am always telling people to look to Chicago, but for god's sake look to Chicago.
The city council under Eric Adams was a progressive counter to the mayor; with Julie Menin locking the race for city council speaker today, it looks like the council will be a centrist counter to him.

🚨 COMMUNITY ALERT🚨

At LaGuardia Airport, there are several rumored and one confirmed ICE arrest of domestic travelers.

If you are at risk of detention or not sure, exercise caution while traveling. Make a safety plan in case of detention and consult an immigration attorney.

Great thread! I'm not a DSA member, so I can't speak to those elements, but I defer to Bright!

Another big thing: in huge parts of the city, if you're a D elected (like Dan Goldman) who's NOT affiliated with the WFP or DSA, you're behind the times & you're gonna lose.

(This is, imo, a good thing.)
Since Z's election, I've been thinking about NYC's political ecosystem and the path of the Left's struggle for governing power over the past two decades.

We're in a moment where the Left's configuration of both protagonists and formations is changing; here are my current thoughts on this change.🧵

oh man i rarely have to call my city council member but just left a message about how Menin should be a no go for them.
Menin says she'll work with Mamdani "on a shared agenda that makes New York more affordable."

GOP members backing Menin, tho, are likely to look to her to be a check on Mamdani. Vickie Paladino said she's with Menin because she "understands all perspectives." www.nydailynews.com/2025/11/26/j...

As someone who has been in political spaces with 1199 for close to 15 years, I can tell you that today's @1199seiu.org moves differently—and in a very good way for the Left. 👏
We’re proud endorse CM Crystal Hudson for Speaker of the NYC Council. Her leadership, vision, and commitment to working families make her the right choice to move our city forward.
