@banburylibdems.bsky.social
The name largely says it all really - unofficial because keep getting told off for being slightly ahead of the party - for Banbury Constituency with the Districts and Wards within.
Many Banbury Lib Dems spent a lot of time and money to help get our former colleague (boundary changes) and friend Calum elected - proving to be good use of both.
This was a hopeless budget.

This is perfect BS.
There is no option they must (and have to) refuse an illegal order. There is no option. This is what the US military is taught (or was), and it is Law (the ochre baboon will go) - but law will (may) stay. Others may find this true ...

This is, of course, the correct response.
Everyone in Labour, in this case, the Lib Dems (Green, PC, MK, SNP etc) and I hope all of Nus Ghani's party stand firm against this bigotry- maybe leave GBNews to the Gobshite racists and Tommy Robinson fangirls.
OFFCOM your part of ship. Do something 🤔?
I know who Nus Ghani MP is - not because we always agree - but because she’s been serving her constituency (as well as lewks) since 2015.

Who the hell is Lucy White?!

Ah, a quick google search reveals her as a rentagob for GB ‘news.’

I know which one is qualified to chair the budget debate.

Oh great yet another bottom feeder wants me dead (actually he would be so confused with my colour and features that his inbred idiocy would blow the tiny mind).
But hey Reform why is he even in your non-fascist party?

We have to start to wonder why every Labour Government ends in this fu**ing place. There is something that is ingrained and capricious about the depths of their cynicism and degeneracy.
Jury trials aren't the norm in a lot of places, but to describe the situation in these terms is fucking insane.

Labour, in the end, are never Liberal or Progressive (Occasionally make the right sounds and some members even are, but...) immigration, id cards, this, etc.
For Liberalism you have to support/ join/ vote for the real thing. As every Labour Government has proved. With Roy Jenkins as an exception

Now this is a result I wasn't expecting to see. Clearly either the good folk of Hale have a beef against Zack (and he's from these parts - well greater Manchester), the candidate or something else...
Hale (Trafford) Council By-Election Result:

🌳 CON: 46.5% (+9.7)
🌍 GRN: 38.1% (-9.6)
➡️ RFM: 8.1% (New)
🌹 LAB: 4.2% (-7.6)
🔶 LDM: 3.1% (-0.6)

Conservative GAIN from Green.
Changes w/ 2024.

I thought this was going to turn into a story needing its own True Crime Netflix series, but no.
This is quite something.

Due to woke, the role of Jim Callaghan has now gone to an Asian woman.
- It is entirely legitimate for the Home Secretary to highlight the overt racism that she receives for taking part in public life.

- Everybody should oppose that racism against her, whatever their politics.

- But it is important to make several other points about this argument about racism.

Can't disagree with Stew's point.
Oxford residents will be entirely unsurprised that this moral husk is in favour of Mahmood's asylum policy.
Labour MP Luke Akehurst says he "wholeheartedly welcomes" Mahmood's plans "which I believe will tackle a failure by the previous government to maintain one of the most basic fundamental functions of government, which is control of our borders."

Well said Rob 👏
Cllr Rob Pattenden: “We are investing in our local communities. We believe that real change starts at a grassroots level, and these grants are a great way for community groups to make Cherwell a place where everyone feels supported, included, and proud to call home.”

This is surely true, sad that it even needs saying...
There is nothing “centre-left” about neglecting climate change.

What distinguishes centre-left politics is that its proponents seek to solve problems through progressive reforms that benefit individuals and society.

When the “centre-left” fails to do this it opens the way to reactionary politics.
Save the planet? Today’s centre-left leaders have more pressing concerns

The Covid pandemic, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the cost-of-living crisis have all pushed the climate crisis onto the political back burner, writes Jeevan Vasagar.

Banbury Lib Dems is currently (re) reading 'The strange Death of ...' (as well as pictured.
Should I start sharpening my pen to write 'The non-very Strange Death of Labour England'? Chapt 1, Brown's Inheritance ... , Chapt 9 taking the piss the Corbyn years, Chapt 12 Starmer - things fall apart...

AGM done. Thanks to all.
Lots of opportunities for the party going into the next few election cycles.
Thanks in particular to @ollyglover.bsky.social for overcoming Cross Country rail to come and speak & discuss with us local national and international issues; wide-ranging probably just covers it.

This sounds like excellent news. Curlew numbers are in free fall, iconic bird
Wading birds such as lapwings, redshanks, and curlews will benefit from a new agreement between the council and @rspb.bsky.social.

Works are getting way to extend the RSPB’s existing site at Otmoor, creating the district’s second habitat bank, an area set aside for nature recovery.

I’m a 3rd child. My father left when I was 3. Overnight we fell from middle class to poverty. My mother already struggled financially but without child benefit, homelessness and hunger would’ve been inevitable.

If you support this policy, you think I should be dead, and I will take that personally.
The two-child limit is cruel, trapping children in poverty and denying them a fair start.

This Autumn Budget, ministers must act and end the unfair cap once and for all.

Interesting evening on the 'cultural appropation' front in kitchen. Given full eyes role, sigh 'leave it to me' for using the wrong rose petals (needed the purple not yellow) in Rose Harissa - who knew - ' I'll do it...' etc
But put monkfish on a pizza and you are a hero and should enter Masterchef

Execs tonight last before AGM.
Major takeaway; never, never NEVER forget to put salt in the pizza dough you intend to bake and eat afterwards.
Adding a few more salted capers managed to make it largely delicious
