These are the voters that Labour strategists have made very clear over a long period of time that they don't want any more, and it's a message that has now been heard

This won’t even work as intended. The people objecting to refugees aren’t asking for people to have to stay longer and jump through more hoops before they’re naturalised. They point blank want anyone not exactly like them kicked out.

So far the media has announced every possible tax increase. Now on the basis of the unattributed FT story they are announcing U-turns on something that has never actually been said and hysteria ensues. No wonder the vast majority of people are turned off from politics.

I find the endless, often pointless drama that has typified UK politics coverage for a decade as draining & unedifying as anyone. But, *as of now* & by every relevant measure, Starmer’s position is perilously close to untenable. Of course people are planning for a future where he’s no longer leader.
