I was listening to your excellent lecture on BBC Radio 4 this morning and my kids will be listening to it this evening. The fact the BBC sensored that line is perfect. I hope their cowardice has a Streisand effect because everyone should listen to your lecture.

The truth is that the sentence wasn’t inaccurate – it was removed because of legal fears. And that’s exactly the concern my lecture raises: when institutions start censoring themselves out of fear of those in power. /3

Confiscating jewellery from survivors of a war zone makes you look like a fucking Nazi. And the obscene thing is, that is the intention. It's there to look appropriately harsh. Indecent. Filthy. A moral stain. And no-one of good character would have ever proposed such a thing in the first place.
