Also from a state (Michigan) that has been operating under an “affirmative action ban” for almost two decades … so our lawyers know that it’s perfectly legal to attend these events

Uuuugh. In MI we’ve been operating under a state affirmative action ban since 2006 and so our lawyers have extensive experience in determining what is/isn’t permissible. And we get to have a booth at SACNAS

I’m not trying to give @pbs.org ideas for raising money—but I am. I would buy women’s fit T-shirts of all my favorite childhood shows. Reading rainbow, 321 contact, square one, zoobiliee zoo. I feel like two generations will run to donate even more money for shirts with Levar Burton on them…

#NASAWebb is clearing up some mysteries about star formation thanks to its infrared capabilities—ideal for seeing the coolest, dimmest stars. ✨ Building on Hubble’s look at the Flame Nebula, Webb revealed new details, including the region’s low mass objects. 🔭 🧪

There are so many horrible things going on in world, in and out of the US, but this form of the US deciding to let vulnerable folks die is just so heartbreaking and enraging
donmoyn.bsky.social
The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

We should form a list of astronomers devoted to telling each other when one of us has gone off the rails. We’ll call it Emily’s List.

Since someone just encouraged me to tell “them”: please stop making the lights on electronics blue. These are the things that are going to be glowing in my otherwise dark room at night, so if there must be a light, please at least make it red!
