During my sightseeing today I went to the Presidential Palace (in Abu Dhabi), where I saw an exhibit on space-related stuff, which included multiple examples of the really cool Moon- and Mars-related research being done at NYU Abu Dhabi. They’ve got geological analogs in their nearby landscape!
A metal plaque has on it: the UAE flag, a plastic box containing a white-ish brick, and text in Arabic and English. The English text reads: “This Moon Brick is crafted from a simulated version of lunar regolith, using rocks sourced from the Hatta region of the UAE. It symbolises the UAE’s commitment to the unity of human endeavor in space exploration and carries with it the hope of global collaboration and coexistence.” A display case contains: Petri dishes with samples of rock dust, assorted lab tools, and a couple of blocks of text (each in Arabic and English) explaining Moon- and Mars-related experimental work being done in CASS at NYU Abu Dhabi

Just finished my last meeting on the AAS publications committee and now waiting at the airport to fly home, while many other astronomers are just arriving. 👋
