"The book is called, Read This When Things Fall Apart. I read it when things fell apart. It cradled me when I fell apart ... This book will have wisdom for you. May it hold you the way it held me."
I Read This When Things Fell Apart and You Should, Too
You don’t have to be an organizer or activist to read this book. It will have wisdom for you.

A January report from Americans United for Life (AUL), a leading anti-abortion group, called on prosecutors to use the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) against abortion clinics and funds.
How RICO Could Be Weaponized Against Abortion Providers and Funds
Anti-abortion groups and public officials are citing the law, along with the Comstock Act, to target abortion care networks.

Weird that Minnesota is not among the states that have joined this alliance
Map of the U.S.

These states have formed a new public health alliance

Democratic governors launched a coalition to serve as an alternative hub for public health planning in a rebuke to President Donald Trump.

States in alliance, highlighted on map:

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Guam, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island and Washington.

It is more critical than ever for...people confronting criminalization under the guise of "care" to expand our visions, campaigns, demands, & strategies... (1/2)

...Sometimes, there’s an assumption that art and culture work is always about “changing minds.” It can be, but this work can also be about bringing issues into new spaces, inviting more people in, creating a permission structure to care and get involved.

This is really important context that we might overlook in all our (often legitimate) fears…

...(1) Their policies are unpopular. Most people do not like seeing families torn apart or cities under siege. (2) They are bullies, and we have centuries of stories about how bullies are insecure cowards. (3) They are bumbling and mediocre—still dangerous, but their incompetence can be useful.

...and yes, we know that making art about what we DON’T like isn’t enough. We can and should also make art that celebrates the people, and liberation, and possibility.

But I would argue that we need both, and that angry, sharp-edged, venomous art has a role to play right now too.

...Yes, there’s already a lot of good movement art being made right now. There always is, and there can always be more.

And yes, we all have different relationships with what is happening, different levels of danger/safety. So nothing here is “advice” or anything I’m not grappling with myself too.

Around 3pm they turned on the overhead wires and operated the train under its own power for the first time! So cool to see the letter boards light up and the bell of the bombardier ring at Southwest Station.

Maybe it would help normalize actually processing grief?

Pushing away the pain and emotions (by “keeping busy”) and saying “time heals all wounds” are avoiding, not processing.
What if we could change this?

This is a fascinating question.
Death hit hard for me in my 30s & peers dipped. (TY community grief group for getting me through.)
Some young children in my life are losing family pets rn.

I would like us to normalize death as a part of life….embracing/centering the Global Majority also.

You?

Middle-aged people (that's all of you lol): do you think you'd be better or worse off now if people had firmly explained to you when you were young that once you're past 40 death is just a constant presence in your life?

(Don't worry, no new bereavements here, just mulling)

A really interesting question ... unfortunately death was a constant presence in my life starting very young because of the cancer mutation, Jimmy (my brother), then friends early on in 20s and disability community so I don't know,

BUT regardless, I have often wondered about this for others.

Consider screening this with friends.
Have folks over with snacks.

The community connection will feel good. Maybe you can organize watching something together every month/ 2 weeks/week. Nothing fancy.

My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."
They Came for Our Neighbors. We Showed Up.
Before long, there were dozens, and then hundreds of people in the streets, watching and responding.
