It’s really this, and a combination of the fact that I don’t think it’s possible to accumulate enormous wealth without being a sadist.
It isn’t that so many of the world’s most powerful men happen to be sexual sadists. It is that at a certain level of power, what obscenity is left but to violate the most vulnerable? Wealth shifts the baseline of morality until what is possible is acceptable. With enough money, anything is possible.
