I really wish horror films would bring back more practical effects like in Dead Alive or Evil Dead. It just looks so much better, it ages well and also @slimemildred.bsky.social is always right when fae calls for more wet puppets in horror. Dead Alive has some great wet puppets.

Second of the canadian thanksgiving horror 2 parter was Dead Alive, mostly great film minus the super 80s racist opening, some of the most absurd gore in anything and I appreciate its dedication to subjecting sex pests to the horrors. 10/10 blood.

The Monkey is like if a Tim Robinson sketch was a horror movie. Truly one of the wildest things Ive watched. It really should be advertised as a gory dark comedy cause there isnt really much horror in it.

Another aspect to add on top of this experience, is that what is meaningful and gives men a sense of pride can be horrific and traumatic if you're a trans person the world is treating like a man.

So you have stuff like this, where you're often treated like a woman...

I often experienced sexual harassment intended for girls, I was bullied for being "like a girl," a girlfriend broke up with me because I was too much like a woman. I promise you pre out trans women arent the same thing as cis men and have vastly different experiences. Often traumatizing.

Canada is a horrid settler colonial project but at least be factual about what is and isnt attached to that. The world doesnt revolve around America. The only reason theres similarities in our thanksgiving to yours is the intensity of your cultural hegemony.

maybe just maybe my youth cant really be accounted for by that standard. I would say the only change after I came out was that the transphobia & misogyny got more pronounced but I literally had stuff like a doctor ignore all my charts about my chronic illness "cause I was just a whiny girl"

I always find peoples weird belief in the "male socialization" bs towards trans women fascinating because in the words of my mom "the way people treated you growing up only fully made sense after you came out". Like if my feminist moms going your childhood had a lot of people being sexist to you 🧵
